I wonder if the stinger is a fake?
According to bug guide they are calling it Ripiphorus Rex a beetle. Interesting adaptation.
Nature does provide a means for fake protection sometimes. I know I'd stay clear of it.... fake or not.

Big improvement with your second attempt and very interesting detail in eye and wing. The wing reminds me of a sunflower. Enjoyed looking at 'em.

Nice job Bill. Not the typical nearly transparent jumper babies that I'm used to seeing.

nice shots, looks like your doing good with the glare and reflections.should be a filter that might help if the rubber lens hood isnt 100% effective
Thanks Tom. Hmmmm. Hadn't thought about filters. Polarized filters are supposed to take the glare off looking at water. I might even have one that will fit my lens. Will have to try it out.

Since you are the author of this thread and you asked I will post a couple of old pics, bear in mind that this was within the first year of my endeavor into photography. These were shot with a Nikon D5100 and the Micro 85mm DX lens.
Thank you for posting these Matthew! Very pretty Zoanthids (at least I think that's what the corals are). Is that a Blue-legged hermit? Love the eyes. I have a BL hermit crab also and he is just too cute! Here is a pic of him. Took these a few weeks ago and the quality isn't too good, although I haven't done any post processing on these yet. Thought you might enjoy them anyway.

I am so lucky to have a great fish specialty shop here in Amarillo. I get my saltwater and RO/DI water from them and my tank has stayed very healthy (so far). Thanks for the confirmation on lens hood. I'm ordering one from B&H.

I love the clown fish. Even has the sad look that some clowns have. Nice focus on all the photos. Can't wait to see more.
Thanks Photoman! He does look like a sad clown, especially with those big sad lips.

very beautiful images and a fascinating thread!
Thank you so much! Different from shooting jumpers, which are my absolute favorite, but I just shoot those for myself and don't post because I just can't seem to get the quality shot that I want. I'm enjoying my new fish hobby!
