I've had this issue with a couple of my lenses, and what it was was the aperture was opening too slowly so the exposure was lower than the previous shot.

I had the same problem and discovered the aperture is sticking. With the aperture on the A setting of course the aperture was sicking more closed or more open at different times and would give me different exposures even with the EXIF data exactly the same.

I just finished a custom order and began setting up to photograph the rings outside when several robins began creating quite a commotion, so I decided to see if I could photograph them. The first pics are of the indoor shoot. The robin and the rest are from the out side shoot. Please critique. Be brutal!

Wonderful pictures. Yes what a great time to spend with your grandchild. I took two of my grandsons to photograph wild ducks and it was so much fun to teach them how to stealthily get close to get good shots and then to find that as a result of our stealthiness the bird actually became curious and got closer giving me many more good shots. I really enjoyed being with those two.

From my experience, low light situations call for my fastest lens which is a 50mm f1.7. I can capture an image of an owl in a tree at dusk and see that there is actually an owl in the tree. If I use any other lens whether it is my 50mm f2.8 macro that works perfectly in normal lighting, or my 100mm f2.8 macro, or my 200mm f4 lens will not work at all. To get sharp photos with the highest quality F4 lens I use this lens in full sun light, I call these my sunshine lenses. As another contributor has mentioned that your creativity increases so much in a top quality fast lens over even the highest quality f4 lens. So if you have a specific requirement for your f4 lens and you can use it in full sun you will have great results.
