No, we are all still waiting as the OP seems to have disappeared.

The OP said he bought a bundle. I assume these were part of the total purchase so can't give specific prices.

I am mildly interested but not interested in managing a group on this topic.

I found this to be a very useful dialog to help excellent photographers become better instructors. They are not the same skills.

I was a teacher, dean, president....in that order over 35 years, and one of the lessons I learned is that a genius in chemistry or history is not necessarily a good instructor. The counsel here on who is responsible is especially pertinent. It is one of the hardest lessons for faculty to learn (and I was one). You can't blame the audience when it doesn't get the point of your speech! :)

I agree with Dave. As a professor of Adult Education--we were teaching adults how to teach other adults--I always stressed that we must be aware of the fact that a word, usually a simple word, may carry a different meaning to the learner than that intended by the teacher. This was brought home to me as an adult trying to learn to ride. The much younger instructor kept saying "come forward." I finally stopped and said that if I came any further forward I would fall on my face. She said "No (implied dummy) that means go faster."

I think we should all appreciate that this student wanted to learn, and his instructor, after laughing to himself I hope, went on to show him how to compose the picture and helped him get a product that would please him. We should all have such a helpful attitude in teaching others!

I am a camera novice and just got an RX10iv. Shot it for the first time today. I did both videos and stills. I removed the sd card (sdxc 64 class 10) and tried to download first to a Mac laptop and then to my iPhone. All photos downloaded but no videos. Back into the camera and I can see all videos.
Any idea of what I am missing?

Thanks for your detailed reply. Weight sure is an issue!

When I went several years ago, we were allowed a total of 30 pounds. Don't think you can put your heavy stuff in backpack or purse. All were included in weight.

While walking and looking at a resting cheetah, I tripped and fell flat on my face and my sx50 and binos. The camera was toast from the sand. Just glad I didn't take my D500 out for that stroll. Two cameras are a good idea but probably mostly leave one in the tent.

In my most recent trip, not to Africa, I just took my new Sony RX100vi and love it. The pictures are amazing and you can crop and still get excellent detail. And the weight was wonderful!

Is there something wrong with the strap that came with the camera?

There is nothing "wrong" with the strap but it just goes around the neck and does not distribute the weight across the body.

Just got a Nikon P 1000. It is HEAVY. I wonder about a good support strap or harness for this exciting bridge camera. Ideas? Thanks.

As someone above mentioned, on my safari with small plane transportation, we had a maximum weight of 30 pounds for all luggage, carry-ons, etc. It was carefully checked. Don't think your backpack won't be included.

And another update. I guess they got too much pressure so modified the rule. Can also bring one bottle of water!

"
-(1) maximum camera lens of 70-300mm is permitted
-Camera bags will be subject to a security check and tagged "

Just an interesting follow-up. I got a call this morning from the host from whom we are renting rooms. He said the whole community is very upset by the camera rule, but he said "everyone has cellphones and they can't take those away." Not quite the same thing.

I should give a bit more information. In the horse world this is a bigger deal than the Olympics. Getting close is not going to happen. And in their rules, one can carry in to the event only a transparent 12” x 6” x 12” bag. Not even my environmentally sensitive water bottle!

I am planning to attend the World Equestrian Games in North Carolina in September. They say 1000 riders and horses from 70 countries. Their rules for spectators just came out. Most look reasonable but there is this: "No cameras that obstruct spectators' view or used for commercial purposes.(I can understand this.) No lenses larger than 35 mm will be allowed?" So how is this to be interpreted? No zooms of any kind? Is it time to get an RX100 MVI? What would you take?

If you will be flying on a small plane there is usually a weight restriction. We were allowed a total of 32 pounds for everything-clothes, cameras, binos, etc. on the one safari I did in Kenya and Tanzania.

I'm starting to take photos for graduates, families, etc. and uncertain about how much to charge. I've gathered some information and kind of have an idea, but I would be interested in hearing from the group. Do you charge by the hours, does it depend on # of locations or # of dressing changes, etc. Please advise and thank you.

I recently purchased a "photo shoot and one high quality photo print" at a charity auction.
The declared value was $575. I "won" it for less. She and I met on location for preview. Then she set 8 am for good light. Took a lot of pictures, then suggested moving to another site and did more. The result was some nice shots. I chose the one for the included print, then ended up buying 20 more small prints in a small album for about another $700. I can purchase repro rights to those shots, giving credit, for an additional $100. I went to her home to review on computer and choose. Have not yet seen final products.

I would never have done this on my own, but thought it was an excellent marketing device that brought in extra work to her.
