Choosing an odd number the result will continuously increase. If choosing an even number other than 2 there is a possibility of getting an odd number and thus increasing the number. If the division by 2 always gives an even number it will eventually result in the final number being 1, otherwise the umber will always increase.
Example: start with 3, odd. multiply by 3 equals 9, add 1 is 10, divide by 2 equals 5 times 3 is 15plus 1 is 16 ad infinitum.
