I am just getting started into digital SLR as of a few days ago after finally moving from slide film and have been wondering the same thing. I do have iPhoto on my MacBook Pro and have used it with my pocket digital and I will probably be looking in the near future to something else.
For the time being iPhoto seems to be ok.
I am new to the Forum and new to digital SLR photography however, I am not new to photography itself.
I finally took the plunge to get started in digital SLR and purchased a D700 a few days ago.
With that said, I have a question regarding the type CF Card; Nikons web site says with an upgrade firmware, either 2,4, 8GB's or 64 GB should be used. Type 1 cards.
I called Nikon and they could not confirm if anything such as 16 or 32GB's would work.
I would assume if 64GB's will work anything smaller should be okay. Hopefully someone can confirm that for me.
Additionally I want to go with ScanDisk and see several different types such as ExtremeIV, Ultra and Ultra II and could use direction here also.
I am sure this has been discussed on The Forum before and I apologize for asking you all to rehash this for me.

I am headed to your state in late winter. Have two brother - in -laws that live in Dallas.
I am Dave, and I was into photography in a big way years ago.
I still own 2 - Nikon F100's that have been setting in the closet for a number of years now.
Over the years I have taken thousands of slides and prints and then lost interest when digital started getting going. Film became expensive and locale processing was horrible. I did manage to sell a few prints way back then.
A few years ago I did pick up a Cannon G-15 and have enjoyed that.
I retired last December, well kind of, I am now consulting pretty much full time.
Just a few days ago, I purchased a Nikon D700 thats in nearly new condition. In fact I have yet to find someone in our little town that carries the right memory cards. So I will be ordering those from BH yet this weekend along with a few other goodies I need. And am looking forward to a new beginning in photography.
I have watched this web site for some time now and so far like what I see. Very helpful and courteous members who have already provided me some great tips just from following posts.
