"But declassified records from the Lyndon Johnson Library indicated that McNamara misled Johnson on the attack on a U.S. Navy destroyer by withholding calls against executing airstrikes from US Pacific Commanders. Instead, McNamara issued the strike orders without informing Johnson of the hold calls, constituting a usurping of the presidentÂ’s constitutional power of decision on the use of military force.[27] McNamara was also instrumental in presenting the event to Congress and the public as justification for escalation of the war against the communists. The Vietnam War came to claim most of McNamara's time and energy. In 1995, McNamara met with former North Vietnam Defense Minister Vo Nguyen Giap who told his American counterpart that the Aug. 4 attack never happened, a conclusion McNamara came to accept.[28]"

I will never forgive McNamara.

I wanted something that was better to walk around with carrying my stuff when I"m out shooting. This vest meets my needs and is a lot better for my use than a camera bag. According to the reviews it is well made and has proven to last. I got one for myself. After I checked it out, I bought another one as a gift for my multi Canon shooting stepson for a birthday gift. He thinks it's great too.

Olympus came through and I received the 14-150mm lens for $400 today.
It was an overcast day. I just went out the front door and took a few pictures. The first 2 were taken at 14 and 150mm. The 150 was clearly an operator error, because the 150mm is much sharper than the picture I am posting. Give me a break, it's only the 2nd shot I took with this lens. It does show the 14 to 150mm range.
The last is of a butterfly that was shot at 150mm on the flowers seen in the first picture. I was 3 or 4 feet away from it. As you can see I am no bug shooter.
At 42mm I have found that this lens is much sharper than my 14-42ez.
This lens adds a lot of size and weight to my camera using my tiny ez lens. It comes with a good pinch lens cap and a hood. I like it and think it will be prove to be well worth the money.

It looks to me that the lens may not have temperature stabilized and it may be fogged up inside. I've had that happen on my Canon SX40 camera a couple times in the summer when we have the house cool and then take the camera out into hot damp air. I have had it take as much as half an hour before the lens warmed up enough to un-fog and I could take a picture that was clear. I haven't had that happen on my E-M10 simply because I don't take it outside if I think there is a possibility that the camera will condense moisture on it. For action shots I rely on manual pre-focus, depth of field and shutter speed for sharpness.

Has anyone had this problem?

My SX50 is 2 years old and I have a problem with the lens. When I turn it on the lens pops out, the light on the LCD display goes on momentarily then everything turns off, but the lens won't retract. So of course it doesn't work and I need to put it in for repair on Monday.

Do you think it is worth fixing or should I buy another? I would love a dslr but as a senior lady they are too big and heavy for me which is why I love my SX50. Is the SX60 an improvement?

I own an SX40, I like it and have read the specs on the SX50 and 60. I for sure think the SX50 is the better camera.
Because you said that you would like a DSLR but you find them too big and heavy, I compared my Olympus OM-D E-M10 to my SX40. The Olympus E-M10 is markedly smaller. They seem to weigh about the same. The E-M10 is of metal construction and even though it's smaller, that's why they weigh about the same.
I chose the E-M10 for its size, better image quality, but more than any other reason was to have a camera that was easy to manually control.
As far as Auto Mode on cameras goes, all I can say is "Thank you very much, but I prefer to screw up pictures all by myself."

I just got an e-mail from Olympus that said "The best lens deal ever." I checked it out and saw that they had just dropped the price of several lenses. The 14-150mm lens that I ordered 5 days ago dropped from $599 to $399. The lens is on back-order and expected to ship mid July. I called them and they are giving me the new price.
BTW the picture that I posted of our Black Lab Sugar, was taken with the OLY 14-42 EZ lens. I have the auto lens cap for it and I am spoiled by that.

FYI. Day before yesterday I ordered from Olympus the new 14 to 150 lens. With tax it came to a tad less that $642. It is on back-order and they said it will be shipping in mid July. B&H Photo also says it's on back-order. After the order processed, they sent me an e-mail saying that I was eligible for a 20% discount for three days on other products. Because my wife is armed and I'm not bullet proof, at this time I don't have the money to take advantage of that 20% discount.

I really like using the EVF on the EM10 and had almost never used the live view screen to compose a shot. Lately I have been experimenting using the tilt screen for lower perspective shooting for both pets and people. A lot of old cameras required the shooter so shoot chest high or lower. I find that it often makes for a more pleasing shot. The attached picture is of our Black Lab Lacey healing from an operation on her rear leg. The shot was taken with the camera about 1.5 feet in height. I like it. If you don't use this mode of shooting, give it a try. Note this picture was cropped about 50%. If you download and expand it, you will see that there is still lots of detail in her face. I really like the picture quality achieved with this camera.
