Hi Mates: I finally decided to get a DSLR. Primarily to keep myself occupied while watching my high school daughter's field hockey games. Any suggestions for an entry level or midrange Nikon and more importantly the lens I will need? I can get not much closer than 50 feet from the action. Also, I have big mitts so I need a camera that is easy to grip. That's why I am avoiding the mirror less. Many thanks.
Thanks. It seems like the Olympus is the people's choice.
Thanks. I should have been more precise. I should have said a "very good point and shoot that is most tolerant of rugged conditions than most in its class".
Though she is not expert photographer...she takes some very nice pictures
. I expect no guarantees in no life... other than death and taxes.
Friend is going to Costa Rica for a two week trip amongst the snakes and all of the other wild things in a national rain forest. I would like to buy her a decent P and S. She presently has a tiny 8 year old LUMIX DMC-FS3.
Any suggestions?
Folks: I have thousands of color slides and hundreds of old photos, many of which I would like to scan, edit and load on to a disc. Later I want to print many of them for 5 x 7's for frames These are mostly portrait and snap shot photos.
Any suggestions for a suitable and reasonably priced scanner? Also any suggestions for a decent but intuitive photo editing software? I was thinking photoshop elements.
Thanks
Interested in this exchange. I have a zillion snapshots on slides. I want to view them all
And save about 200. Should I use a light box to do this? Obviously I am a novice.
Plus I want to digitize the keepers. Can I do this fairly well with my Nikon 7200 using the light box?
Mates: Thanks for all of your suggestions. They were very helpful. Based on those comments, I have decided to get the D7200, body only. I read all of the wonderful comments about the Canon 7D, but its a bit out of my budget. Plus the d7200 fits well with my big mitts. And these girls are not exactly speedsters. Also, I like that the Nikon has built-in wifi.
Now two more questions:
1) Other kid (13yo girl) has made the basketball team and I want to take some decent pics. All of the games will be inside and I think I will be able to get close to the game unless they think I am a stalker. Any lens suggestion?
2) I have a great camera store down the street. I know I can save a bit by buying online. But do you think the added value I get from service is worth it. The store is well-staffed and I am definitely an amateur.
I have a Canon G-9. But its time to upgrade because I want to take pictures of my daughter at field hockey and son at his ultimate frisbee (ugh!) tournaments. Any thoughts? I was thinking of the nikon d5300 because it has wi-fi and seems to fit my needs. Any thoughts? What kind of lens do I need? Local camera store recommended a 55-300. Seems like a lot of glass. I can get very close to the action. Thanks.
Thanks. I just bought the refurbished d5300 from
Adorama. Good price. No lenses yet
