Try the free app Sky Guide". It will show you the sky from wherever you are, day or night, even if you cannot see it. You can plug in Lat/Lon to view form that spot. You can plug in dates as well. Enjoy.

Well said Jerry. As Leica user I appreciate some support.

I also use a couple of Canons. It depends on what I am shooting. Everyone makes great cameras, Usually it is the trigger pusher that makes the difference.

I have used these products for a while as plug ins to Lightroom and have found them interesting and reliable. I am preordering the new offering anticipating an even more advanced program. I will still use it as an plugin, but I am also thinking Adobe is going to out price my pocketbook one day and I want to have something satisfactory to go to. This may be it. We'll see.

My error. Missed the period in 4 . 5, not f45.

As I will be in the Pacific fpr a cpuple of months I guess trial and Error will give me sometning to do at night.

Maybe I can get off and go to the outback for a night or two where the ground should be still.

First, thank you for your service in the Navy. Then, thanks for your observations. Flash never occured to me LOL!

I am wondering if I can crank up the ISO and usehigh speed continuous multiple exposure, f/45, and maybe 1/125 - then try to stack them in Photoshop. Any idea how many exposures will be needed to make a real picture?

I will be cruising the Pacific Ocean next January and am interested in shooting the night sky. Does anyone have experiance in doing this successfully? I know ships lights may be problematic, and ships motion and vibration must be involved in the solution, but how are these and other factors overcome?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The night sky is spectacular in both places. It requires no extra walking.

Doubling up is nice but inconvenient and really not necessary, I used my 24-70 lense the most. Next I used my point and shoot a lot.. it was really handy around the ship and in the zodiaks. I put it into a baggy and opened the top when ready to shoot. you can slip it in and out of your parka even with the bulky life vest on and not risk a bigger set of equipment.

take plenty of cards and batteries [with chargers] Light changesckly and regularly. Have something on that is neutral gray and shoot it regularly. i used my wifes grey cap she shot my grey cap.

Don't fotget to take the camera down and just suck in the beauty for your own memories, YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME.

MV is further away from SLC. Arches and its companion Canyon-lands is much the better choice. Also, the drive to Arches will give you plenty of picture opportunities. Drive, don't fly.

I think the progression of the two photos really tells the story of the progression of the mood. The bright light of #1 precedes the knowlege of the loss - loss of a friend and there fore the loss of light in #3.

Very moving pictorial story. Thanks for sharing.

I am interested in finding the best/friendliest software to do camera control for my Canon cameras on my Mac computers. In particular I would like to do stacking of Macro images, night sky extended exposures, and such.

Thanks in advance for your help.

For butterflies and hummingbirds I have had great success with the Cannon 100-400 II lens. As said earlier, you can be much further away and not disturb the subjects. I set my tripod up, focus on a flower that has been visited regularly and pull the trigger when the subject shows up. I can be several feet away and of no interest to the wary subjects.

As has been said above, you will probably find access to the park limited. If you are on the Jackson Hole side of the park, you can often find a great sunrise opportunity from the pass between Jackson and Victor. You can often get sunset pics from the road to Togwotee pass toward Dubois.

If you can get to Jackson Lake for sunup the picture across the lake towards the Tetons is spectacular.

Enjoy the trip.

Thanks. I manually move the camera forward by using a slide rail to take each photo. I stack the photos automatically using the free software Combine ZP.
Thank you very much!
