Thanks everyone for your comments. The seller is offering a 14 day no questions asked refund. the seller does have a 100% rating as well. The seller is saying that they have no idea how this crack occurred.

Depending on the price I may go for it.

There is a lens on eBay that I'm interested in buying. But it has a small crack on the manual focus window (see photo).

Will this cause issues down the road because it's not properly sealed (dirt etc)?

Does anyone know of a particular online store that has the Tamron 150-600 in stock?

Look at tripod selection criteria published on the RRS website, and the Gitzo catalog. They rate their tripods as "suitable for ____ focal length." If you think about it, it makes sense. What good is a great deal on a tripod if you are unhappy with the results? Your Tamron/D7000 combo needs just as stiff a tripod as my D800/600F4 - trust me.

Makes sense Gene51. Thank you much for taking the time to respond. I'm going to a bunch of research in the next couple of weeks.

Gene51, thanks for your advice. I saw on another post today that you have a Feisol CT-3472.

I was intrigued by the CT-3442. Based on my fairly limited weight needs (max is D7000 with Tamron 150-600 or Nikon 300m F4 and TC 1.4), this looks like it will more than meet the weight requirements. The lighter weight and lower cost is appealing. I will still get a upgraded ball head.

I want this to be my tripod for the next few years. Any thoughts?

Arca Z1, Markins M20, RRS BH55, Kirk BH1 - are all heads you should be considering. Keep in mind that with a Sidekick, the ball head is subjected to lots of torsional forces and the connection between the stem and the clamp must be absolutely up to the task of being used with a Sidekick. Some of the lesser ballheads are not recommended for Sidekick use.

Gene51, do you know offhand whether the RRS BH-40 will work with the Sidekick as well? I found this link that provided compatibility with the Sidekick, and the BH-40 was not listed under the mid sized category.

Just curious. I will call them to check on it regardless.

I'm looking to get a good tripod and ball head. I primarily shoot wildlife (mostly birds) or landscape. Ideally, I'd like something of good quality that I can use as an all purpose tripod including using on a short hike.

Equipment:
* Nikon D7000 & D750
* Heavy lenses are Nikon 300mm F4 with TC 1.4 and also planning to get the new Tamron 150-600mm. Both of these are around 4lbs.

I'm thinking about a RRS BH-40 ball head.

Suggestions for both tripod and ball head?

Again, looking for a good compromise between something that is rock solid for landscape photography that will not compromise IQ but something that is light enough that can be taken out into the field and support the weight of the lenses mentioned above. I will spend the money to get the right equipment but don't want to overspend since I can use those dollars on glass.

Also interested in getting the Wimberley Arca Sidekick Ball to Gimbal Head Adapter for shooting birds. Thoughts?
