Very difficult driving for about 15 or 20 minutes; into deep shadows, then brilliant sunlight.

Thanks everyone.
Take enough photos (over 900) in 8 days and some are bound to be the way you actually saw the scene.

Very nice series. Out of curiosity, what is happening with the clouds in #6? Some kind of masking?

Just darkened the sky a bit, easily done in LR or PS.

My daytime camera had 24 mm; my night 28. Sometimes I needed to make pans. Some were only two shots, others as many as five. Most are landscape, two are portrait.
I am right at the edge of my Wi-Fi reception, where I might lose the signal, so I'm not going to take the time to explain each shot. I'll try to answer specific questions if you have any, but these are in the most popular areas of Rome.

Does anyone play with it? For what purpose? What paper do you use for printing?
I tried it just now to see how it can look, but I have no experience with it.

Great…thanks for sharing.

I have never been in NYC. I have flown over it in B-52 training missions but no view.

You remind me of the joke (or maybe it's a story) of the commercial pilot who is seeking directions at one of the big airports in Germany when the ground controller asked him if he this was the first time he was in Germany. He answered "no, I flew over it many times in World War II, but tried very hard not to stop."

Your view from the B 52 missed quite a bit. It's really quite a city that is a series of villages surrounding business areas.

Thanks, all. In a couple of days, I'll post some of the Panoramas I made.

Appreciate all of the great remarks. Serendipity helped.

The top, depending upon where you look, shows Long Island city, Roosevelt Island and Queens...or all three.
The bottom is just because I like reflections.

I am trying very hard to show Rome without including any iconic shots.
The top three are within the Piazza Navona.
Then there is the pre-Easter labor intensive audience area at St. Peter's and a weekday noon mass within the church.
The next two are at the top of the Spanish steps.
Then there are the local imbibers waiting for a table at Ciampini where I three different times had the world's best (mho) tartufo. The last...well, you can figure it out.

None of these particularly need an explanation. As I've said before, I am trying to avoid iconic images.

As many of you know, the problem with digital photography is that the shutter button goes up and down far too many times. I still have about 300 images to do some initial editing on before I decide on the final 35 or 40 for the book.

Excellent photographs, David.

What lens were you using in the second photo that renders the background with that soft glow?

Stan

Stan, the lens (24-600 Zeiss standard on the Sony RX10, my daytime camera) had nothing to do with the effect in the background. Before I changed it with Photoshop, it was a glaringly white building. I darkened it as much as possible without making it look like mud, then converted the image to a smart object and used a blur tool on it. The result is basically a happy accident.

Most of the time, we ate at "non-touristy" restaurants, gathered from different sources by my wife, who in her much younger other life, spend three years there. We walked 10 to 20 minutes on cobbled streets just like these in the dark, giving thanks to the god of the GPS. Then, upon leaving the restaurants, the GPS guided us home.
As to the dog, it must know Rome style puts NYC style to shame.

An old man pointing a camera at her? What would you expect? (LOL)

The camera was between my legs on the seat. No reason for her to be looking there. (Lol)
