Thanks, all. As I said above, I'm pretty much convinced-- d850. And also convinced that d810 might now being used by someone else. When I do buy the d850 I'll let people know, since that'll be shortly before Nikon announces the next in line in planned obsolescence.

Thanks guys. I've found several comparative YouTube videos and I think I'll abandon the d5, in favor of the d850 if I still cant find my d810. I do still have the solar filter. In its case it's a decent paperweight.

Thanks. What little I've read about the Z's hasn't been impressive. I'll check out that video.

Ever since we returned from the solar eclipse trip I've not been able to find my d810. I miss it, but understand nikon is slightly reducing prices on the d850 and d5 (shudder). Anyone have comments on that choice? Aside from the massive price diff? Also does this pricing change say newer models are around the bend?

New in Sigma's ART series. Love the specs and expected capabilities. But, does anyone have one? Rave or complain I'm interested for astrophotograhy.

I love the range and it's pretty much permanently mounted on my d7100. Also handles AF well.

Thx. I now can see the connection to that guy. Perhaps malcontent is a good label. I feel sorry for him. Pity.

Really cjc2? Who are you talking about? And which "other posts"? Certainly not many from me. Legit ament question. Mostly helpful responses. Nothing "dum" -- Not even dumb.

Thx to all for responses. Looks like the wide zoom plus tripod and d7100. Any recommendations on how to?? Again thanks. The Minolta SRT-101 was easier.

Currently in Grand Canyon. Very heavy rain -- scary in fact -- removed Smokey atmosphere leaving unusually good crisp views. Now also hope to snag sunrises and sunsets. Title above lists only lenses with me and have each mounted on d7100 (the wide angle) other on d5300. Which to choose? Any other advice? Intend to use tripod and periodic 5 shot bracketed.

Nice pictures. Brought back some memories. Mine was an uninterrupted early Feb 1968 thru Nov 1969 trip, with excursions throughout I Corps to IV Corps. On Veterans' Day 2 years ago there was a little stand with 2 vets and a map. I trouble deciding where to use my map tack indicating place(s) visited. Picked Hue, as the bloodiest. One of the guys said "welcome home" -- nicest greeting I've ever received (as well as first meaningful one). No interest in returning, but would enjoy photos.

Two days ago I was wandering thru messages under the "moon" heading, trying to find 2 particular pictures (taken, as I recall, over a desert setting). I've spent a bunch of time, haven't again found those, but wanted to pass along a comment on this one of yours. I've looked at a lot of lunar pix -- and my favorite is this one. Congrats!

Warrior-- 50mm for his DX? Don't think so. Doesn't he need 35mm (as he suggests)?
