I went to the manual on my computer and printed out the page that deals with locking and unlocking. Unlocked the picture and was able to crop it. Again, many thanks.

Thanks for the info Picdude, When I first had this problem, I thought it might be a memory card problem, so I down loaded everything on to my computer and then I recharged the battery, thinking that might be the problem.

I don't know what you mean about formatting the memory card. I'm a novice. As far as the lock function, I'll try and research that. I have down loaded the manual onto my computer and then print out different pages that I'm interested in. So I'll try and find something about a lock function. Thanks for the tips.

Yes, I'm talking about doing it in the camera and then being able to save the new image.

I an a first time participant on this site and I am not too computer smart. I have a canon XS260HS and have a problem. In the past I was able to take a picture and then crop it to a portion of the main picture. I have been following the steps on page 174 of the manual, but I have not been able to crop a picture again. What am I doing wrong? I follow the steps given, but the screen doesn't look like the book. Any help would be appreciated.
