It definitely is a female American Goldfinch with its wing bars and dull colored bill. A female House Sparrow has a yellowish gray bill. enjoy the birds.
Quick question. Depending on which camera body you used, can you use a teleconverter with your setup?
I recently purchased the ProMaster Professional XC525C Carbon Fiber tripod for travel. Its carbon and very light and compact. Just google it for the info. I'm using a Nikon L840 bridge camera and a Nikon D7100 w 300mm f/4E PF lens currently. All seems to work well and I got it for under $300.
Say what camera and lens combo did you use to get such amazing shots! Thank you for sharing.
So what is it? Sounds and looks interesting. What sort of reach does it have. Thank you for sharing and please clue us in.
I didn't mean any disrespect towards you. I merely was informing the whole. You mentioned in your response that I read your entire original post. I only see the first post by you on June 28, 2015. So I'm not sure what you are referring to. But I am happy that yours are protected as well as ours.
Not sure if you know why they are bombing you. But here in California they are a protected species and you can be fined for getting too close. They are protecting their young. Please give them their space to breed and do not disturb them.
Looks like LEAST TERNS. We have several colonies around the Bay Area / San Francisco Region right now with chicks also.
Some of us are holding our collective breathe for camera info. Exact body and lens would be good. Excellent shots!!
I want that lens. Now is it the Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens going for about $2700? And you must be shooting on a tripod. Thanks and amazing photos of the hummingbird.
Thxs for the hummingbird photos. Do you know what they are?
The last photo's birds look like American Goldfinch.
I'm thinking that that is the problem. I was told that you can use a FX lens on a DX camera body but not your way. For people who are considering upgrading, if you purchase only FX lens and using a DX camera body, you could easily upgrade by going to a FX camera body. Its all good!
Nice shot of the female on left with the male on the right. Many of our male birds are more colorful than the females. Not so much with the human species.
I have the Sigma 150-500 f/6.3 on a D7100. Not happy with it. This lens is way slow in low light. While shooting in aperture priority, I can see that the focus isn't spot on. Adding a TC made things even worst. Can't speak for the Tamron or Sigma C, but I'm looking into better glass.
I am a avid birder looking for a good camera with good reach to carry along with my Kowa scope/tripod and binos. I am using a Nikon D90 with a Sigma 150-500mm right now. This is far too much equipment to hike with. I have looked into the Nikon 1 V3 and a Panasonic DMC-GH4 which are coming out soon that has a 300mm lens. I'm looking for the opinions of far better photographers since I have no experience with this type of camera except that they are much lighter for the field. Thxs.
