To all:
Thanks to all for the suggestions given. You've provided me with some interesting options to consider and evaluate.
You'll have to forgive me in regard to my responses to your comments. Looks like I haven't got the hang of proper formatting.

None. Lightroom is the gold standard, besides the native tools, you have access to thousands of presets and tutorials from users both amateur and Professional.

The reason for my considering something other than Lightroom is that my LR program crash may not be recoverable. If I wanted to replace it in kind a quick check indicated a replacement standalone is no longer available and I'm not interested in the subscription option. I think I'll take some of the suggestions given to check out a few others (other than ON1) before locking into a "chosen one".

I don't know if the term "better" is an apt description when comparing programs. I think there are many programs that are equal to Lightroom in one way or another. Affinity, ON1, MacPhun are a few. It really depends on what your needs and expectations are with a post processing program. I've processed, to date, just over 9,200 images using Lightroom and I find that it meets about 95% of my processing needs. I also use Photoshop, On1, MacPhun, and Topaz, plus a few more minor programs. I love the way Lightroom works and it makes my "photo life" so much easier. So, it works well for me but perhaps not for you or others. You might consider simply trying different programs using the 30-day free trial that most companies have.

[quote=via arvath 3112] I have been comfortable with Lightroom but the program picked up a bug and is out of commission. I've installed ON1 Raw and have started to work with it. My initial judgment is that at could well be a winner.

What pp program do you believe is equal to or better than Lightroom (with cost not being a factor)?

I would recommend Cyberlink Power Director. I've used it on several projects. Costco is what I use to digitize the film. I don't offhand recall the file extension of the digitized file from Costco but it can be read by Cyberlink. Photos in a variety of formats can be read as well. I've made a number projects of movies from 8mm and super 8mm film, movies intermixed with photos, slide shows and all of these with or without music or voice over. The program includes a ton of transitions and everything you need for creating some excellent videos which can then be burned to DVD. Check it out. I'm sure you'll be pleased.

I have the sigma and really like it on my 7100. Sharp pictures in my opinion.

One note: long ago I had my D70S fall out of my car from about 1.5 feet. I never really detected any problems with it but I always was looking at every picture I took for the next 7 years for a problem. I guessed that the fall happened around pic #6,000 so would always compare later pictures with previous pictures. My point?? You should note the picture number where the fall occurred so you will have a point to compare with. But maybe you're not as anal about it as I was. 😜

You might also think about the Tamron 18-270 which I have used with great success for a few years.

My Nikkor 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 DX met the floor from about 3'. I mounted it onto my D7100 and it seemed to function OK but I'll have to check a bit more. If it is really damaged and I have to replace it I was considering the Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM as perhaps a reasonable replacement.

Has anyone used or is using the Sigma that may be able to give me their opinion of the lens?

I just [today] received a booklet of sales items from COSTCO. PSE 14 (limit of 1/customer) will be available between Sept. 29th and Nov. 29th for $39.99. It's a full version program. This is how I purchased Version 12 shortly after it came out. In addition, for those interested, during that same Sept-Nov sales period COSTCO will have the new version of Norton Security (Premium) with backup for $47.00.
Again - that's how I purchased Norton Security last year rather than purchasing the upgrade directly from Norton at a significantly higher price.

COSTO regularly certain programs for a few weeks on an annual basis at a significant discount. Hard to beat. And the programs are full version.

I have used Huey for many years now and love it. It only takes 5 minutes to calibrate every few weeks and one Huey kit purchase will last for years.
