Cars & pickups of the day were mostly drab grays & black. Bright colors are more modern. You have been watching too many films with restored vehicles. Also, white wall tires were NOT standard. I used to paint mine with a latex "tire" paint from Western Auto. An early auto that I drove had mechanical brakes which was cable to wheel brake lever from the brake pedal on the car floor. Frequently out of adjustment so you would instinctively correct with steering wheel pull in opposite direction to the car pull of the brakes.

Me too, Mark, with the old Plymouth stick shift that had the ship (Mayflower) hood ornament and the mouse skin fabric interior. Yes, High School Gym.

I too had the same expectation for "stacked".

Absolutely! I would love to be driving one now (Studebaker Hawk) as a daily driver.

Curmudgeon, I have enjoyed your photos over the years, except for the extended period of my being banished for calling a moron (not you) a moron.

As a college age teen, I worked at a (now defunct) hotel as a busboy, bell ringer, "tummeler's" helper (getting people on the dance floor to dance or participate in "Simon sez". Pay was an unsubstantial amt (less than a $ per hour) and my sleep quarters was a shack with a military cot. It was fun, though. One particular teen girl caught my eye and heart, but fraternization was not permitted. Oy Veh!

Good charater shot. I especially like the leaning crossing sign.

I used to carefully paint my tires with white latex (tire) paint, but that was 75 years ago.

Marge, I am humbled and gratified that there are a few erudite people such as you in this world.

Thank you for unblocking me and allowing me to comment. I will curb my perceived "h**eful" comments.

Marge, my late, dear departed, english teacher AUNT was a stickler for correct grammar. At the age of 86, which I am now, I still remember the childhood correction she gave me: "the word is aunt, not the creature that crawls on the ground, the ant".

This is a photography blog not an English class. Everyone does not have the same education nor the same vocabulary. You're out of place to correct someone especially publicly unless asked for it as you just did. If you feel you're smarter than somebody else and you have to correct them take it private otherwise if you don't like it leave the blog.

It is not a matter of being more intelligent ("smarter"), but a matter of being taught correct grammar in grade school. This is, evidently, not a requisite in the public schools anymore.
