Has anyone understood Google's decision to remove data from "Album Archive" this July and move anything left to Google Takeout? Where does Picasa figure here? Does Google still have any control over Picasa albums? Google does not make clear what is happening and how most of us should proceed, if there's anything to do anyhow!
When I made the trip to Upper a few years ago the ride to and from cave entrance in the back of an open truck generated incredible clouds of dust and dirt. Bring airtight bags for all your equipment - and ask before if this still is the case.
TSA went wild over my Leica IIIf and lenses some 20 years ago. Endless examination, holding lenses up to the light, multiple agents, threatening responses when i asked how risky a camera bug with 50-year-old equipment was likely to be. Someone later told me that old glass contains an ingredient that prevents x-ray machines from seeing through them, an ingredient no longer used.
I found Fuji Velvia a good replacement for Kodachrome with my screw-mount Leica.
I've used them for years and always appreciate the responsive, helpful and personal assistance they provide.
Nikon makes a device allowing you to use a DSLR to photograph slides. Super high quality and easy process.
Many thanks to all of you! Very helpful counsel, as I expected it to be. I'm following up! Bill
For many years I have selected a half dozen or so of my favorite shots for the prior year and had 4x8 glossy cards made with 4x6 prints, top or end of card, and I scribble a few words on the blank two-inches. The longtime and beloved owner of the photo shop where I've had this excellent work done died suddenly this fall, and plans for his shop -- a mecca for local photographers -- remain uncertain just now. I know that, for this year at least, I can have 4x6 prints made by Google or by Amazon, but the 4x8 option is not there, and I have no idea of the quality of their work. Does anyone know of reliable online services that can produce high quality prints (4x6 and preferably the 4x8) and even with envelopes? Thanks!
I have a good size collection of Leica screw mount lenses for my IIIf, all superb. A 135 mm Hektor from the 1930s did have fungus in it; I had it professionally cleaned and the magical quality of that lens was gone.
The only issue I had was with use of two cards on Nikon D810. Deletion of a photo on camera worked on one card not the other and created confusion in numbering and something like a "hole."
Don't forget late model screw mounts!
Thank you all! Most helpful! Bill
Many thanks. It made no sense to me! I'll pass this along.
A friend submitted an otherwise desirable collection of jpg photos to a non-profit archive only to have them rejected because of issues with jpg: The archive said that each time a jpg photo is opened, data is lost, with the final result the disappearance of the file. So the archive accepts no jpg materials. I'd never heard this before, but wonder!
