Ok thanks. Does anyone know how much I can expand in PP and still expect a high quality product?

I am considering buying a Sony rx100m3 even though it's a bit pricey for my wallet. I want a good p&s that fits in my pocket and takes great pics and that I can use quickly. I am a bit disappointed in its zoom capability though(2.9x). my questions are 1) In your opinion(s), is it really worth the money? and 2) can I use the magnification in post-processing to get the same quality as, say, a Canon sx 50 at its 50x magnification?

I've always enjoyed looking at great photography and would really like to try some of my own. I would like some advice from experts on a good camera/lens combo. I found a Canon t3i with an EFs 18-55lens and EFS 75-300 telephoto for $600. Is this good for a beginner like me and is the price decent? Any other advice would be appreciated.
