Thank you everyone! Wow! So very helpful - honestly. Will be doing the recommended research... :)
I am thinking about purchasing an additional flash for my Nikon D5200, and have been looking at the SB-500 AF. Any comments or suggestions?
Before I got my first "real" DSLR I had the cheapest Kodak EasyShare P/S I could buy. It seriously took some of the nicest shots! Even won a few local contests.
WOW! I was just there, too. Saw eagles, took pictures, but none worth showing. I was too far away with too short a lens. Saving my pennies for a nicer lens for distance. What equipment did you use?
Thank you! Will check it out!
Has anyone on this site ever rented a lens? I am not in a position to buy the telephoto lens I would like right now, and heard there are places you can rent them. Experiences? Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks! This moon shot was taken in St. Martin last year. NO TRIPOD!!! Taken with my Pentax K-x, 55-300mm lens at 300mm, ISO 400, f16, shutter speed 1/400 - incredibly lucky!
Thanks everyone - looking forward to trying this!
There will be four "Blood Moons" over the next two years. April 15 and Oct. 8 in 2014 and April 4 and Sept. 28 in 2015. A series of four such as this is called a "tetrad" by astronomers. It is a full lunar eclipse. Light bounces off the moon and is refracted through the earth's atmosphere, giving it a coppery hue. The last "tetrad" occurred in 2003 and 2004. Any suggestions and/or hints for photographing this phenomenon?

My guess would be a white tailed kite
Got the kit with the 18-140 lens. I had a 18-55 and a 55-300 lens with my Pentax, but the zoom didn't seem to have enough clarity, even using a tripod. The sales rep told me that with the added pixels (24, from the 12 of the Pentax) that I may be able to crop shots with the 140 lens and still get the clarity I want. Then I can decide further down the road if I want to invest in a stronger zoom/telephoto lens
Just purchased Nikon's 5200. Thought I was going to buy the 7100, but after discussing with the sales rep, the 5200 seemed like a better choice for what I like to do - lots of outdoor stuff, kayaking, hiking, etc. the camera is significantly lighter in weight. I have 30 days to change my mind... any opinions? It seems like a great camera.
Oops again! Meant to send this message to Skooters in Flagstaff - so much learning to do!
You can do a google search on just about anything you want to photograph and you will get a wealth of ideas and suggestions, too.
I LOVE Flagstaff! Our son lived there for awhile; was a Mormon Lakes Hotshot firefighter. Lucky you - photo ops everywhere!
