Does anyone out there have experiences to share about underwater photography using a Nikon 300?

Yes that's correct, New here trying to be a photographer for 50 years. Gonna attempt something new, snorkeling in the Caribbean. Here is where I need your help. I have a used Nikon C30 waterproof camera coming and have a SVP Aqua 5500-A. The viewer on the SVP is so dark that you can see practically nothing at night in a room with just the TV on. So I eBay'd the Nikon. Do you think the Nikon would be the better choice? The 10.0 Mpix should be sufficient. What do you think?
