I take it back. There was cropping on the second image. Just don't remember exactly how much, as I'm sending you this message from my iPad. I'll check back when I log on to my desktop. Cheers,

We still do not know what focal distance was used, and a square format means some cropping was applied.
With a stand-alone lens, captured macro is only possible at MFD.

I am envious of your Sigma 150-mm macro lens!
To be sure of 1:1 magnification, (life-size) your lens must be set to MFD. This is best achieved with lens in Manual focus, collar turned to MFD.
Your Nikon D3100 has an APS-C sensor that is 23.1-mm wide. What is the diameter of your flower subject?
does that mean i don't have to upgrade to D800e just yet? :)

Which lens used? Was it set to MFD?
Thanks, Douglass. It was Sigma 150mm, at f/14, 1/200, 0.7 EV. It was set up for macro, although not sure about the distance. I know it was this close. Another sample is attached. I also took the liberty of including another image of same flower from a distance.

A flower that is. I got you there. :)
I'm not sure what this one is. But, please, have a look and enjoy. Should you care, a C&C is welcome.
Cheers,

The month of June is reportedly the month that produces the most vibrant floral colors! So I thought it would be a shame not to capitalize on nature's Bounty! The different perspective part of this Challenge is your individual artful interpretation . The following examples are my attempts to get you going... ;-)
I will be posting more examples as we go and look forward to seeing what you come up with-anything goes!

Here's my contribution to your topic. Taken last year from Maui. Hope you like it.

I believe these are magnolias. They're common in the tropics. I see them in Hawai'i as well.

I stand corrected. These are plumerias indeed.

I like the texture you captured in image #2. Image #3 is a nice portrait of a Skipper butterfly. Well done.
Thanks, Douglass! I always look forward to your comments, critique.
