You could always go around the state to all the old grist mills. Look up Alley mill and Hodgeson mill to name a couple.

Get on state highway 63 south of Jefferson City and wander south. Plenty of side roads to explore. Ozark streams: Jack's Fork, Eleven Point. Like little old German villages? Vienna, Herman, Westphalia, Dutzow. Caverns? Onandaga Caverns off of I-44 near Rolla. Onyx Mountain.
Unless you enjoy traffic jams and way too many people, avoid Branson, Lake of the Ozarks, I-70 corridor and lack-luster Merramec Caverns.

I have lived in Missouri all my life, mostly within 100mile radius of St.Louis, been into photography since 1955 and have always been able to find something interesting to photograph. While the Grand Vistas of the west aren't available there are all kinds of scenes, Maybe your eyes are too busy looking for grandeur to see the beauty in simplicity.
Try Elephant Rock state park, Johnsons Shut-ins ( in the same area}, Lon Sanders Canyon, Castor River shut-ins it goes on and on.

Ya, pretty much my experience with my limited exposure to shooting people. Still, when I am able to get that one magical moment it makes it all worth it.

The old Abe's of Maine had a good rep. They went bankrupt in 2012.
The new one is classified as a "Bait and Switch" and has a very bad rep. Plus they are not an authorized Canon dealer like the old one.

look here: http://www.canonpricewatch.com/blog/2014/05/warning-avoid-abes-of-maine-and-other-bait-switch-retailers/

I also looked into them and found the same thing all over the web.

Narnia,
You can create a custom profile using Adobe's Lens Profile Creator found here. Admittedly, I haven't tried using but it doesn't look too complicated.

My Sony eats batteries pretty fast. I just got two extras and a car charger.

My remedy also. Just have to stay on top of it, and when using the camera a lot remembering to keep the charger going constantly. Pain in the butt. I wonder if the sony full framers have the same problem?

Same trouble with my NEX 6, the "predecessor" of the A6000. As low as a third of the shots per battery as some competitor cameras and their batteries. Sony evidently isn't known for its batteries.
