Sometimes we pay to attend workshops, sometimes we learn by experience. Let them know you were surprised to see another photographer and the press he received. Move on and be careful next time.

If you are using old cards (which are slow) it takes a while to download regardless of what you have.

If you are satisfied with your image from the camera the way it is, why worry about what others are doing? Some women don't wear makeup, others need to be prim and proper and more attractive.
I have used the 24 to 105 Canon lens for at least 100 weddings and I love it.
I use "Image Capture" on my Mac. Works great. Not expensive.
I also took the NYIP course and finished in about 3 months. It was very helpful to get me started. Also, join a camera club. The members usually are quite helpful and they have assigned photos for competition and critique. Practice, practice, use and record speeds, f stops, conditions, etc.
