I like to use the ‘soft shutter release buttons’ on my older, Nikon cameras — such as the FM2n or FE2. The kind that screw into the shutter buttons. BUT, they do have a nasty habit of becoming unscrewed, then lost. And, they do cost to replace.
So, my question is whether someone has a good way to secure them so they do not so easily unscrew themselves, yet are not so glued in that they can not be readily removed when desired?
Any thoughts that have worked for you are welcome.

A quick (and likely dumb) question, if I may, regarding your explanation above regarding setting up the exposure — specifically regarding adjusting for the Orange filter. I follow the steps and reasoning if I were setting up an external light meter to use with a camera having no TTL metering (like my Leica IIIF). But, with a camera having TTL (like my old Nikon film camera) which does have TTL, I’m having cognitive dissonance. Doesn’t the TTL metering already adjust exposure for the Orange filter? In which case, also adjusting the iso or EC would double the effect? Sorry for the bother, and am very much appreciating your work and discussion on the various films.

Thank you for again sharing your insights and images on a particular B&W film. I both enjoy and learn from them.

Thank you! (I think I may have to re-read this a couple of times, and experiment more.)

Very interesting. Question: When you use a filter (usually Orange) and if you are using an in-camera TTL exposure meter, do you also still manually adjust iso?

Good and useful info. Thank you for posting!
(I’m very interested because am trying different B&W film. It seems that in my previous years of film photography, I just used whatever B&W film was handy, with little thought to which might work better for a particular task. Oh, well. Better to learn late than never, I guess.)

I’ve been following a seller on eBay named: “rmlxmzd1226”. Located I think in the US, in Chicago area. Appears to specialize in used Nikon equipment, and show some very sought after models like F3T/HP, FM2N, FE2 plus some nice Nikon ai/ais lens models. Many of their offerings seem to be in new and/or unused/open box, etc. condition. Seems to receive good reviews, both numerically and written.
As I might be looking for a couple of not-inexpensive items that they sometimes have — both camera and lens — in the not too distant future, I thought I’d inquire as to others’ experience with this seller. As good as they appear on paper?
Thank you for any feedback you can offer.

You might check out Valleret cold weather photo gloves. I have a pair that works well — purchased a couple of years ago.

Both my wife and I had cataract surgery last year. I am 76, she is somewhat younger. In both cases the Dr. implanted a single prescription ‘near’ in one eye, and a ‘far’ in the other. It worked out very well for both of us. (Neither of us have noticeable astigmatism, which can I understand complicate matters.) Both of us can drive and can read well without wearing glasses. However, both of us did get prescription glasses to wear for those long periods of driving or reading or working on computer. Both of our insurance companies paid for all or most of the related expenses. The procedures themselves took very little time — less than 15 minutes per eye. No discomfort during or after surgery. Once both eyes done (about a month apart) took very little time for eyes/brain to adjust. Just had my one-year follow up with Optomitrist, and vision is same (almost 20/20) without glasses as it was right after surgery. In short — and comparing the before/after results and the ease from the patient’s perspectives of the procedures and recovery, I think it is one of those minor medical miracles that really made a difference for us.
(As an aside, from the perspective of an avid photographer, I went back and reviewed some of my images taken and processed in the year before getting the cataracts fixed. It seems that many of them had too much post processing in areas like saturation/contrast — perhaps due to the way the cataracts affected how I saw them at the time.)

A friend gave me some very old, unexposed film (maybe 10-20 years beyond expiry). The film is Fujicolor Superia X-TRA from Walmart. He thought had probably been stored in bad environment (hot garage, dark cabinet, etc). Was curious to try it.
My question is: Can film get fungus, mold, other bad stuff that ‘could’ (and, I would not want to risk) spreading to the internals of my camera?

I very much appreciate any information you can pass along.

I very much appreciate you all taking the time to respond to my inquiry, and I value your thoughts.
Fwiw, I now have the Nikon FM2N and the FE2 — both in great condition — and love using them. Having owned the FM3a in the early 2000’s when it first came out (then later, and now regretfully, selling it to move to digital) I am now tempted to buy one to replace either the FE2, or both it and the FM2N. Or, am also tempted by a Mint- F3P — although I’ve never even handled an F3 and therefore don’t have a good idea how it feels in the hand (or, bag), nor how I’d like using the viewfinder and it’s digital readouts. So, will continue to look at both.
Again, thanks very much for your responses.

I am considering purchasing an older film Nikon from Japan — perhaps an FM3a or F3. Either would be old enough to be out of any original Warranty period; and, by definition, neither would be a ‘Nikon USA’ camera. Therefore am wondering about any future service needed.
Am I correct in assuming that:
1) Since they are not cameras imported to US by Nikon USA, Nikon USA would not provide any service to them, even if I paid them?
2). Also, for the same reason, Nikon USA would not provide the parts required for that service/repair on these cameras to an independent service business in the US?

If these two assumptions are correct — particularly for older Nikon cameras — how worried should I be about buying one? (They are not exactly inexpensive.). Or, are the above assumptions and potential concerns basically irrelevant?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
