Thank You Orvisk. I included a sample photo taken with this lens and the 1.4 TCE-II. Taken at Cape MAy Zoo in NJ, through a fence enclsure.

Great photos dhelix33.

Also Great to hear everyone's response about their Df. I bought mine when they first came out, love the controls and low light capabilities. I bought it to hold me over till the D5 is available and as an every day travel camera. It has been great.

Combined it with my old 35-70 f2.8 and it is perfect for travel when you don't want to carry the whole kit. It is also great for teaching the exposure triangle to people who have been stuck in auto mode

Of all of the responses, yours probably is more reflective of my position. The D300 replacement might not ever come, the D810 at dx 1.2 might be as close as it comes. I got thr Df as an interim camera waiting for the D5. It was a camera that had unique enough characteristics that I would keep it and it would have a clear function. I do not want to be a collector.

The D5 sounds like it will be what I am looking for. The rumor specs of 20 mp are fine, the 173 focus points will not likely show up in a lower grade camera until canon or Sony forces nikons hand. So I will anxiously await the D5 and then join the long line of orders so I can wait for the little brown truck

Till then, I have to justify the 400mm Fl. To my wife, we will need a new living room set anyway

I'm 75 and using a D4. I don't consider it too heavy even with some of the big lenses. I shoot events and so I carry it around frequently. It's part of my exercise program.

I got a D800e a couple years ago and I consider it to be a specialty body. The 16MPx of the D4 is quite sufficient for the photos I take, but there are just a few times the D800 gets rolled out because of the resolution. When it comes to low light situations, the D4 beats the D800 IMHO.

I use 10fps frequently. For bracketing, it gets a bracket quickly so the scene doesn't change much between shots. For group shots with flash, I find bursts allow you to mitigate the effect of blinkers in the group. Using moderately high ISO, the flash doesn't have to dump much charge so you can get 3-4 shots on one charge in a burst. If someone blinks, they usually recover by the 3rd or 4th shot. I shoot events with people speaking. Many people produce the strangest contortions of their face while speaking, so shooting a burst allows you to pick a shot where they don't look too weird.

If you can wait for the D5, I'd go for it. Sounds like you have an understanding wife. My D4 only cost me a new couch.

In response to the question I inferred from your title:

How many Nikons does it take to satisfy GAS?

All of them.

Thank you for your kind words. I maintain my own website so feedback is appreciated. I may tear down and reload all images and perhaps display galleries differently. It gives me something to do while Nikon figures out its product line. Still waiting to see if they step up to the plate on a replacement for my D300

I played with the website tonight and reduced the size of the files. It impacted image quality, but loads faster. Thanks for the feedback

Yes I understand the size and weight. I have an F5 and an 80-200 f2.8 It is a beast. But a great beast.

Yes I know it is loading slowly. Sorry. An other days project.

My wife is very supportive. Last year I talked about a gimbal. For Christmas after much research on her part she bought me a weatherly gimbal. After receiving I explained it was overkill for my largest lens a 300mm f4, so I need to get a 400+mm anyway. So a D5 will balance well. I don't expect this to be light, but yes I do understand the weight

Love the responses. At some point she will get a new living room set anyway. I decided the strategy will go out of the box. I will take her to a local Tesla show room. That should give me latitude for a D5 and a 400 mm f2.8 fl
