Dear Dick,

I just sold one on eBay, Canon mount with autofocus, for about $80. I purchased the lens 14 years ago for $300 so it has held it's value well. It was a fantastic lens for me.

Hope that helps........

Dear Sonja,

Congrats on the anniversary! I actually grew up in Duluth-Superior so no the area well. I am now living in Connecticut.

In terms of photo areas I would recommend the Enger Tower Park area in Duluth. The tower is pretty cool and you have some fantastic views of the city and harbor below. Canal Park is also a nice area to walk and see Aerial Lift Bridge from a number of perspectives. A walk along the "beach" should provide you with some interesting ice formations...you might even want to go walk on the ice but be careful because they can sometimes shift. You may also wish to check out some of the older homes in East Duluth with a visit to the Congdon Mansion.

Duluth-Superior are heavy industry towns; steel, papermaking railroads and shipping. There are remnants of a more glorious past just around every corner. You may wish to photograph some of these items for a different flavor of your trip.....shooting old industrial items in B&W can be quite interesting especially in winter.

When you are there, don't forget to check out Grandma's Saloon.

Enjoy your trip but bundle up.....it is very cold up there.

Thanks for the clarification smile. Tripod permit is only needed by the Capital itself the rest of the Mall appears to be no problem at all.

Thanks for the comments......

Regarding the use of the tripod. Yes, I used a tripod and a remote switch and manual focus. I was not aware of any tripod ban on the mall.....I saw probably a dozen or so other people out there on Friday with tripods as well.

Thanks for your feedback. I used to live in DC 10 plus years ago so I am quite familiar with the color at night around the fourth. I will try to work it into my calendar for next year.
