Hey there
I am B.C. in electronics, photographer and Eneloop user.
Some chargers have extra circuit inside set to drain the excessive charging current in order to protect the battery during the charge. When unplugged this is actually draining the batteries. So, .. leaving the batteries in the charger - big no - no ...
As for Eneloop - still no substitute. Simply the best ...

UNLESS you are working with MULTIPLE simultaneous photos in PS
AND - doing humongous memory intensive photo reprocessing - -
OR - - you have several users relying on YOUR machine as a server
Additional memory more than 8 GB is unlikely to provide benefits worthy of the expenditure.
IF you can increase your processor throughput by 50-100% by increasing the number of processor cores / pipelines - - OR - -
Offload some video processing to a Graphics Card core - - THEN
I would invest in whichever of those would provide the most value.

And one more thing ....
Since I do a lot of video recording of my kids - I bought mirrorless Nikon 1 J1 ... it does fantastic job, ...and after that I never recorded any video with the 5100
the kit lens 10-30 is fantastic, but you can also buy 10mm 2.8 which will be even better ...

Will, I have 5100 among the others and I have seen the comments BUT I see that a lot of them have never tried to record a video. SO ...
1) You need wide angle lens
2) 18-55 is wide angle but HORRIBLE for auto-focus (this is what nobody considered so far)
3) You need AF-S lens in order to auto-focus with D5100
I personally like 35 mm 1.8 AF-S because this is normal lens and the angle of the recorded video will be just as you see it with your eyes, or if you want a little zoom 50 mm 1.8 AF-S
Also you might consider 17-55, or the other mentioned tokina and sigma, BUT make sure you try them first especially the AUTO-FOCUS.

Good luck

One thing you should note here is that the Canon 400D (XTi) came out in late 2006. The technology in digital cameras has radically changed since then. It is best not to judge it against the latest models from any manufacturer.

One of my other bodies is actually 2005 model ... &
If you have seen my previous post you would notice that I am a little bit more experienced ...

Good luck on either choice.

Canon support has totally failed me, and eBay sellers can ignore us when the feel like it.

Yeah ... actually I was thinking of selling and going to something I know that works ...

Bigfoot73,

I am beginning to agree with your original post, there is something not right with Auto White Balance. It is for this reason I use one of the selected white balance settings in the WB control. Not a Custom White Balance you have to set in the main menu.

I have heard that other camera manufactures, cameras ,perform much better with Auto White Balance.

Do you have a good understanding how White Balance is achieved in computer software? Most of the time it depends on an element in view with either, white, or black; the AWB works on one of those elements.

You may have to contact Canon Support to resolve this issue.

Bigfoot73, br br I am beginning to agree with you... (show quote)

I didn't want to bring up the issue of manufacturer, but i definitely agree on that .. my other cameras are different brand and ... Well - they work perfect ...
The way things goes I might sooner contact eBay than Canon.....

@Armadillo - I used the menu and removed both batteries ...

@ CHG_CANON - As I mentioned before I have tried all combinations ... with this photo I just made photo to upload otherwise have tried all combinations .. so Neutral is not the problem in this case .
I have the same problem (shifting) even if I shoot outside on daylight - but the amount is different and I have to adjust again and again ....

@ haroldross - I have PS CS 5.5 but prefer ACDSee Pro 7 (much easier with fantastic results)

- And in general ... Like I said , I AM quite advanced user (32 years behind camera, graphic design, 3DSLR, 1 SLR & 1 mirrorles, and huge shelf full of glass) ... this is NOT about which settings I use simply because I have tried all of them.

Please make sure you have paid attention what I wrote - I tries all settings - that means ALL. I have problem with camera which shifts the WB unequally so I have to adjust it all the time.

I need somebody's experience with similar problem and how was it fixed OR idea where is the problem so than I can fix the camera.

Otherwise I master the settings and PP pretty good and I can take the most of the camera in every situation - the problem is that it takes so much time that sometimes it just isn't worth ...

I agree - the camera doesn't create TIFFs. But, that's what you've posted.

I never ever use tiff nor convert to .. either original CR2 or jpeg (just my preference)

I missed the links above. None of the links open nor download successfully. Given the camera did not create these TIFF images, maybe we're onto something. The original, unedited JPEG or RAW file is what you should post, not the processed TIFF result. Are one of these original files available?

?????
It is RAW image copied directly from the camera with USB cable ...
D400 does not create tiff btw

Bigfoot73,

Without knowing your overall experience with DSLR photography, I tried to get you to go back to the beginning with everything set to the Canon Default to test the camera itself. Then you will know where to go from there.
