I use it and like it. Takes a little getting used to it at first, but does seem like an advantage for me. A first I forgot it a couple times, then I would focus and reshoot.

Mainly from my mother, but also inspiration from my Uncle who was a professional photographer for 45 years, most of that time in Memphis, TN. My mother makes greeting cards and she inspred me to do photography. I love it have a passion for it and it has now brought me a modest income. The overall reason, I enjoy it very much. It is my expression of art.

Did you shut off the Image Stabilizar after you put the gear on the tripod? That could be the culprit.

Show me the best and I am sure I would lust after it. My 5d Mk III is really all I have ever wanted. Now that I have two L series lenses I am having even more fun. This reminds me of my days as an audiophile in the 70's.

Hi to you all, I have been asked to take some pictures of a Bonfire night at a local pub, purely on the grounds that the landlord had seen that I had a large camera and so took it upon himself that I knew what I was doing. I have explained to the guy that I am purely an amateur and that I will be there any way with my camera and that he is very welcome to any images that I take for his own use, but I would like to do well with this challenge purely for my own satisfaction. My question would be as follows; what ISO, what SS and what and where to meter from. I do like to shoot manual and RAW but what about the white balance, can that be set in camera or in post processing because I am shooting with the Nikon D 700 but I do not know which preset WB would be correct. I will be aiming to use my Speedlight Flash unit for fill flash pics of the crowd but not quite sure what the camera settings would be to achieve the overall correct exposure, or would Lightroom software be able to assist in this. So many questions, So keen to learn the art. Many thanks in advance for all your very much appreciated advice and I will be sure to post some pics to show my appreciation for your kind help. Keith

Get out there and shoot. Good advice here. Take what you have confidence in and just do it. There is nothing like getting out there and trying. It doesn't seem to me you are under the gun here. And have fun!

Several issues being mentioned in this thread. It seems tha buying the standard 3 ND's (2, 4, 8) is about the same price as one VND. the VND gives you more options with less time to stack and unstack ND's. I like the screw in filters because they are easier to carry and will not fall off your camera if you fall or drop your camera. Using a VND will reduce the vignetting you might get if you stack a 2, 4, 8 to get 6 stops whereas a VND will give you up to 8 stops with one filter.

Agreed. I use the Tiffen VND. Like it.

I thought Aluminyze was expensive. I had several photos on aluminum for a show and I used Bay Photo because of a much more competitive price. I do think their quality, Aluminyze, is good, but would raather spend less for the same product.

Alwats RAW +L (jpeg). One for editing if needed and one for the Internet if I want. The RAW image is used for editing. If I edit the RAW, I save it as a .tiff and .jpeg.

I saw him in concert in 74. He was incredible. It was for his "Don't shoot, I'm only the piano player" album.. Damn, that was almost 40 years ago.

I saw him in 1973, and wow, what a show. If the music is good, then I'm okay.
