This is a derailing comment alright, but in a positive way. I had not even thought about the SX60. I am reviewing specs and test reports and I am very pleased with what I see. Thank you for your input.
Happy if I could help, especially since I saw that we're in the same area of FL. Sorry for the "sidetracking", though.

I am looking for a backup camera; has anyone received/bought the Nikon P900 camera yet? I am considering placing my order for one but I am concerned about preliminary reports indicating that, regardless of the great P900's 83X zoom capabilities, the quality of images taking with the SX50 HS are far superior.
I gave my daughter the Canon this past week and I am impressed with some of the pictures she took in our backyard and at the beach. See below; not bad for a truly novice.
Your comments and feedback will be appreciated.

Hi, just putting in my 2 cents' worth here, now that I've read the 3 pages of replies.
I'm wondering why you're not considering the Canon SX 60, the newer version up from the SX50. I live in your area and found one on "clearance" at the Osprey, FL Walmart for $245. I already had the SX50 and was pleased with it but at that insanely low price I could step up to the 65X zoom on the SX60. Talk about a no-brainer (which is about all I can handle these days! lol).
It also shoots raw and I've been more than happy with the other upgrades from the SX50. It may be something you might want to consider, since you're looking at the newest version of the Nikon P series.
Hope this bit of input helps and hasn't derailed anything (I tend to be good at getting distracted! sheesh!).
This is great! Very specific, easy to follow. Thanks for sharing this!

Here is a picture of two prints I have hanging on my wall in the store. The one on the left is printed with refill inks from Costco, the one on the right is printed with genuine HP inks in an officejet 7000 printer. Same image, same printer, same paper, same settings, and one year ago last month they looked like the same print. You can clearly see the Costco inks are NOT of archival quality. I would venture to guess that in the next two or three years you won't even be able to tell what the image is of with the refilled cartridges. And these prints are not exposed to direct sunlight at any time, they are by the front door of my store and that door faces due North.
Judge for your self.

Thank you so much for this. As they say, a picture's worth a thousand words, right? And I was just about to try Costco's ink refills too. Good timing. What a great forum this is!

Really chilling information!! Makes me glad I live in FL, where it's been in the low 80's for weeks. (But don't ask me how much I like FL in hurricane season! LOL) Thanks for sharing these links.

I know! If you blink, technology changes another leap. Good idea also to sit corrected since it's so difficult to type while standing.....

An iPad IS a computer, but it's not a general-purpose computer the way a PC or a Mac is. There is no such thing as an iPad Air. There is an iPad and there is an iPad Mini, which is just a smaller-screen iPad.
The MacBook Air is a Mac laptop with Mac OS X, i.e., a general-purpose operating system. The Air is a lighter weight laptop than the MacBook Pro and lacks a few hardware features. Tech specs for the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are available at:

Ok, I don't really have a relevant comment to add to the question about iPad vs. laptop, but I just had to jump in here and suggest that you go to the Apple website and see for yourself that the newest iPad is indeed called the iPad Air. So please don't confuse the issue by saying that "There is no such thing as an iPad Air."
Ok, I've put in my 2 cents' worth and I feel better. Sorry if I've ruffled any feathers.....
