In the time that I've been a member on UHH, I've seen several discussions (rants) about the Photo Gallery: being polite and saying thank you to those who take the time to post comments; some saying they just don't have time to leave comments; and slamming those who post 'nice' comments about perceived 'poor' photos.

The administrators will have to respond to this post based on what can or cannot be done with the programming, but here is my proposal.

Add a clickable box for "Likes" alongside each photo image. (Let's just skip the "Don't Like" as it is just needlessly hurtful for the Gallery.) This solution would remedy several issues:
1. People short on time could leave a positive response;
2. The poster would realize how many favorable views his/her photo was actually getting;
3. Comments could still be posted if so desiring for suggestions or to give special kudos;
4. The poster would not be obligated to respond to every comment since the "Likes" are anonymous;
5. Our mailboxes wouldn't fill up every time there is a post to a watched topic--clicking the "Watch Topic" could be optional.
6. Wouldn't that relieve a lot of data sharing on the system?
7. Since every comment re-shuffles the order of the posts, would this not help keep newer posts from getting buried under those getting repeated exchanges?

If this has been asked before I came on board, please excuse the redundancy. It just seems like such an obvious solution, though.

Please add your own pros and cons to this idea.

I've had both of my Bogens for about 35 years now and they both look and function like they were made yesterday. I just wish I still had a use for my 3058 Heavy Duty. I would love to find an old view camera and stick it on top. Use it as decor maybe.

Thus the definition of art varies widely.
Irrespective what what any one individual might define as art, people are quite free to define it for them selves. IMHO

Excellent point. It .Could not have said it better myself.

From what I read, you seem to be saying that because people use what others have created in their own compositions that they can not be considered art. I believe that art is a mental process and that the artist is free to use what ever tools he or she desires to use. Ultimately the only person an artist has to please is him or herself. Is an author any less of an author because he uses words that others have created ? Of course not, it is in the specific use of those words in a particular way that makes that person an author. Based on what you have wrote I could just as easily say that images created digitally are not art because the technology used was created by a cpu and post processed in a laptop or Personal computer. Hogwash guy. Art as with beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I can absolutely guarantee you that the very pics you call garbage is admired by someone else. Funny how that works isnt it.

Bottom line this guy is not going to find what he's looking for. If you read the responses the ones that come close are not even heavy duty. They are very cheap models with plastic heads that can not be removed. The only way this is going to happen is if makes it himself out of 2x3 or 2x4 lumber. Got to be realistic.

Maybe they should split the site into SLR. DSLR, Point and shoot, Medium Format, Large Format. I could go for that.

This is very true and is what I do. I use 35mm for tele work mostly but some 6X4.5 Pentax. Wide angle stuff goes on 6X9 medium format. If you are going to the "trouble" to shoot film - make it worth your while - with medium format - that's my take ....

After taking a peak at some of your work, I have to take your recommendations seriously :-) Good tip.

Cool. Another good reason to shoot my F1 and T90's.

I like the idea myself. I bought a couple of Canon T90's for parts. Sacrificed the worst one to see how to take them apart. One was boogered up but ran fine so I refinished it in camo he he and kept it as a knock about second for the fork bag of my Harley. It turned out so well I did my primary. The finishes are the same you would buy to finish a stock on a rifle. I have three of them now. Two look and function like they were made yesterday albeit in camo, and I kept the other one stock. Awesome cameras.

I seriousely doubt that you will find anything close to what your looking for for $25.00. If it is just a one time thing and I had a budget of $25.00 I would look for a Ritz camera and rent one but even this may run you more than $25.00. If this is not an option your only recourse imo would be to build one out of 2x3 lumber. If you did find someone willing to part with a HD tripod for $25.00 you would be looking at around $50.00 Just to ship it.

How about some info about what you are doing. Maybe we can help you do a little brainstorming. Another idea would be to join a local photography club and ask if you could rent or borrow one from another member.

Good luck.

That's the big problem with Canon. Lenses do not cross over. Nikon's on the other hand do cross over but that doesn't help you. Shooting film today is a matter of personal preference. Film is not obsolete though by any means. Digital is just more economical. Film is still being shot by pros as it is still sharper than dslr images. With post processing in a computer though the difference is insignificant and hardly noticed. There is a reason that photography schools still teach film. They are teaching people much more than how to point and shoot. Shooting film is a creative process where as digital ? ..... is not so much.

Hi Carmin. I shoot the Nikon 3100 dslr, Canon F1 and T90 35mm. and Bronica SQ-A for medium format. What subject matter are you most interested ? Are you strictly digital or did you go old school as well ?
