I really like it. It looks like a painting. The only comment I have is cropping out some of the black. However, this is from one who only aspires to take such a photograph.

They are all great shots! The sparrow looks as if it's tired of posing and wants you to "just take my picture now!".

ProPhoto is a very wide color space meaning that it encompasses billions of colors. Neither you nor I can see those colors and monitors were not designed to see them either. Monitors and professional labs see sRGB, a much less wider color space and instead it still has millions of colors that our eyes cannot see either.
It is not my intention to get you confused, there is plenty of information in the WEB about color spaces.
I am not saying that I am correct but I only use sRGB and to my eyes I am very satisfied with the colors I see in my prints. I am sure many will disagree with me.
Learn about color spaces and then you will be able to make a more educated decision based on what color space to use.

I have a tendency to make things uncomplicated.

Thanks for all your input. I try always to adhere to the KISS principle.

It is a very good start and you did very well. I am sure, although you are not asking for help, that you would like some feed back on this picture. If you do not, please just discard this information.
It is a very small file and I made it smaller with my selective cropping. Look at it and notice that I removed distractions so that the viewer could concentrate the eye in the most important part of the frame which is the bird. We all see and feel differently about our subjects and this is what I would have done with this file if it was my picture.
I can see that you used ProPhoto but forgot to convert to sRGB which has the colors all monitors can see better. If you keep on using such a wide color space just make sure that you convert to sRGB when you are done.
It is a great shot and let me repeat that you did very well.

Thanks for the feedback. This is the first time I've used the software and am open to all suggestions and comments. I didn't 'forget' to convert to sRGB. I didn't know that I should. Should I not use ProPhoto and use something else? I see I have lots of reading to do and lots of tutorial videos. What do you mean by 'wide color space'.

decent shots, you need longer glass, or SNEEKER ZOOM. Focu s on the eyes and use as much shutter speed as conditions allow, Explore your ISO limit and read Bryan Petersons UNDERSTANDING EXPOSURE

Thanks for your comments. I have Bryan Peterson's book but haven't gotten very far. I didn't have time to change anything as I just happened on him as I was going into the yard to practice shooting flowers. I will keep shooting and trying to get better. As to the lens, I think I need that Tamron zoom. :)

Precisely! When you crop, the IQ is degraded. That's why we all try to get as close as we can so we don't have to crop too much. But you seem to have a good eye so you are well on your way.

Keep shooting.

Thanks for the comment. I was afraid if I moved it would fly away. They are so quick!. I was thrilled to get the shot!

Funny story. My son had a friend over one day, and he came walking into the room drinking a glass of red liquid. My son asked him where he got it. "From the fridge." It was hummingbird food we had mixed up last summer. Poor guy.

Funny!

Welcome to the Hog. good shots, but can you get closer, either with a zoom or moving in a few--or several--steps? This seems like it would be pretty spectacular if you filled the screen, maybe even getting rid of the feeder?

Thanks for looking. I will try to crop and repost later.

Is this what you mean? It seems blurry with so much cropping.

Welcome to the Hog. Nice photo. Because you said that you are using LightRoom, I would like to make a suggestion. On Linda.com, Jan Kabili has a course on using LightRoom. One of the greatest frustrations a photographer can have is the mess you can make with the Catalogues and setup within LightRoom. Before you download a multitude of shots it would be a good time on getting a grip on how you store and access your shots. It will surely save you time a effort later. Good luck.

Thanks for looking. I will check out linda.com. I can use all the help I can get.
