Your answer is the reason I do enjoy reading this forum. Always something new to learn.

Where did you read that? You do realize you can't believe everything you read on the internet.

Lens image quality is a combination of contrast and acutance, and both values change with the fstop and distance to subject. There are no hard limits on acutance or contrast - some subjects have lots of both and others not. This is a pure guess, but I would imagine that even a 100mp full frame camera would do a good lens justice.

Now, there are lots of crappy lenses out there - my favorite crappy lens is the Nikon 28-300. On a D800 or comparable camera it is pretty awful - and the camera does expose and to a degree amplify it's flaws. That lens is ok on a 12 mp camera, but when I put each of 3 different copies on my D800, I thought they had all been dropped.

A lot of people love that lens - I can't understand that. Even Nikon cautions D800 owners that it will not produce the best images on that body, and as such have not included it on the list of recommended lenses for that camera.

Your question is not going to result in an answer - but you will get lots of great opinions.

You are right, but the camera has focussed on the nearest part of the frame, the blue and white frill.
The only thing I can suggest is use a higher aperture and focus on the part of the face you want in focus such as the baby's nose.

Hello,

This is a screen shot showing the focus point, the metadata to the right.
It appears to me the sharpest part of the photo is just below the focus point.

I would appreciate any comments and advice.

Best regards

Thank you for your reply.

I also own a 85mm 1.4 d lens that I enjoy very much. It is the best portrait lens I have used so far. And yes, the camera is full frame a D600

There is so many good things said about the 135mm f2 DC, I need to try it for myself. I did find one on eBay for what seems to be good price. USA version 18 months old $825.00 free shipping.

It will arrive Friday and I am hoping for the best.

A day late and a $ short. Wish I had read about these filters before I bought one. Don't waste your money. Next time I will buy individual filters and stack them.

I haven’t had much luck with them also. I have Tiffen 77mm 10 Stop variable filters. I even contacted Tiffen showing them the issue, and they sent me two filters as replacements.
Both had a similar issue as you have posted. I have had a little luck when not using them at 10 stops. Although overall seems best to use non-variable filters.
What brand is yours?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a safe, compact and effective lens cleaner I can put in my camera backpack?

Can you call up the NIK plugins from within Photoshop? youll probably have to reinstall NIK plugins. I did. The PS release notes say you have to reinstall all third party plugins.

When I use the Nik Selective tool with Photoshop CC it will merge multiple RAW files.
Lightroom CC has its own new HDR merge feature.

The NIK Collection are plugins that can be used in LR or PS. To use HDR Efex Pro, select your file in Lightroom, then right click the image and select export to HDR Efex Pro. It will handle raw files without a problem. As far as I know it will only process single images, it does not do HDR merge like Photomatrix Pro or Photoshop, it only simulates the look of an HDR image.

Google has great support. Via email or phone.

I do believe Efex HDR will process only JPEG of Tiff . Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I use it seamlessly through Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC never any issues.

Some correct me

Good morning all,

I have a question regarding HDR Efex Pro. When I go to use the program, and want to select files to load, it takes me to the appropriate file folder, as it should. However, when I select and open the folder I want, it only shows me the jpegs I have in the folder. It does not allow me to change my file type to anything else, to select any of my TIFF or RAW files for processing. I have Windows 8 operating system. I have looked at all my preferences and settings both in Windows and the Nik program and haven't found anything that would allow me to fix the issue. I don't have this problem with any of my other programs or plug-ins. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your replies,

Trent

Not really, it's kind of expensive and a bottle of 99% alcohol at the local pharmacy is better for cleaning lenses. it's only $1.99 at the supermarket and will last forever, (or at least till next year). The higher the concentration the better but it doesn't work well on sensors, that's what the Eclipse is for.
