Just adding a new hedgehog pic - Mr. Pippin again. A friend suggested we call ourselves "Rose and Hedghehog Photography" for a a one-day photo endeavor fundraiser. This is what I came up with for our "sign". I flipped the final left to right, so it would be Rose and Hedgehog and not hedgehog then rose. :)
Just thought I'd share the smile!

I did several variations of cards this year, but this one gets all the critters but the fish! This was for my pet suppliers and vet :) Enjoy! And have a very photofriendly Holiday season!

My private zoo!
Come back sometime (when the weather is a bit warmer) and visit some of the new parks - Washington Park up by Findlay Market (which is looking good its own self) and Smale Park between the stadiums... Fountain Square does free movies on a giant screen on Summer nights, along with concerts and other events. I've been here 6 years now, and I'm still finding out new and interesting things and places!
There is a hedgehog rescue - check out HedgehogCentral.com on the web for locations. Those who love the critters really love them :)
They can make them lay down softly when they're comfortable, but they can also stick them up, and will sometimes ball up and then pop like a ball bouncing, to try to scare you off with the quills. They don't come out - no barbs to catch in your skin. But they are sharp! Usually water will calm them right down - mine lower their quills as soon as they're wet. I don't know if I said - that's Ms. Hufflie on the left, Quillby (the baby) in the middle, and Mr. Pippin on the right. Pippin is 3, Hufflie is 2, and Quill is about a year.
There are lots more stories, trust me! They're a handful. As soon as they're not being prickly, they spread out like water in all directions...LOL.
Hats = Photoshop Elements. Getting them on the table together was hard enough...
What a cutie! Love the little guys, even if they are prickly.
I was playing with a photo to send my hedgehog rescue friends. They're not ugly, so don't tell anybody they're here :)

Tossing in a visual "Happy Thanksgiving" to all the UHH folks!
Thanks. I'm interested to see what I can do with a DSLR and a tripod this year :)

The annual hot air balloon event will be from 4-7 on 11/17/12 at Mirror Lake in Eden Park. Just putting the word out! Great dusk photo opportunity, and it's free. Bring the kids :) We'll be there shooting.

Hope we didn't lose our travelers to Sandy...
Can we get an update? Where are the intrepid adventurers now?
Thanks!
Missed a couple of questions. They get on fine with my dog and cat, but I know big dogs often think they're squeaky toys, until they get a mouth full of spines. The spines don't come out like a porcupine, but they are sharp. They require temperatures in the 75-85 range all the time, so outside isn't a possibility. Under 75 they will go into a pseudohybernation and die. They're not long lived, really 3-5 years, but they mature sexually at like 8-10 weeks, so you can't ever keep males and females together once they're weaned - unless you want a bunch of hedgehogs!
A *good* picture of Mr. Pippin
