Very nice! I'm noticing a bit of a halo around the subject, did you by chance create a single exposure HDR here?

The only issue I have with matte finish is if there is not always a manufacturer watermark on the back side, I almost always print on the wrong side with the 1st photo.(I never have been a winner with 50/50 odds) But tht's what happens when you invest in Kirkland photo paper from Costco. LOL!

That's a great job! If you are using a high megapixel camera you may want to crop to bring the subject in closer. But it would also be great left as is.

I used Photoshop and used the rectangle marquee to set the border and then under the 'edit' menu choose the Stroke command, It lets you set pixel width and color of the stroke. You will need to play with the width to get a thickness you like. It is all dependent on what your dpi is set at. If you make the stroke thick enough, you can add a gradient to the stroke for a nice touch. I suggest using 'layers' for all your edits so you don't destruct the original. As far as the background, I put the background on a separate layer and dropped the brightness to darken the background. Hope this helps!

Thanks. I was suprised when I saw the shot. It was shot through a glass enclosure at the zoo. There had to be some protection between me and something so menacing looking!

Hello All,

I would like to introduce myself to the forum members. I've been an avid photographer for close to 40 years. My 1st SLR was a Canon AE-1, then a Canon T-90, a Canon 20D and am now a very satisfied owner of a Canon 7D. I can't think of anything that gives me more pleasure than taking pictures. I want to help others when possible and share some of my work. I just dig this forum and look forward to the email every day. I'm looking forward to helping others and picking up some pointers from the seasoned veterens myself. There is always something to learn when it comes to photography, and I learn something new every day. For starters, I've yet to master the art of star photography and am at the point of frustration. Hopefully some star shooters will see this post and share some shots and tips. Thanks for all the great pictures uploaded! I just love to see other people's work and there are some fantastick photographers in the group. Keep uploading and I'm looking forward to participating in the critiques and discussions. Here are a few of my favorites. Yours Truly! Loop
