This Redwing Blackbird showed up at a feeder back of the house by the pond about 10 days ago. We noticed different behavior and then the stick, straw, weed or something sticking out of it's. body. Later we noticed that the stick went clear through it's body and that it has a wound on it's head. The bird comes to the feeder several times per day and has been coming back for some time and seems to be eating and flying away with no worsening condition.Questions?Has any one seen any thing like this? What is the item stuck in the bird? Is there anything any way to get it out? What caused it to happen? We wonder if it was attached by a hawk and drove or dropped causing the problem?Any ideas?

Pond and bird feeder have attracted 31 species including green heron, mocking bird, blue heron, wood ducks, kingfisher, and great egret.
I am lucky to have survived 88 yrs., helicopter crash, diabetes, and 2 strokes. I am still able to take photos, use Lightroom, print and enjoy photography as a hobby. New features in equipment and inspiration from similar experiences from 6 yrs. of following UGLY HEDGEHOG are the reason.

This is a picture I took at my pond behind the house. We have too many fish for the size of the pond but the Blue Heron is getting all of the big ones, instead of thinning out the smaller ones.Took a burst of 8 exposures with elapsed time of .51 (second). The heron swallowed the fish in this time frame.
Exposure 1/640 sec at f/6.3--Focal length 550mm--exposure bias 0EV--ISO 280--Exposure Program Aperture Priority-- Metering Mode Pattern--Nikon D850/Tamron SP AF 150-600 FS-6.3 (Partly Sunny,9/40/.12 AM).
Hope this is not TMI.

In the process of a plant clean up we discovered this dove siting on her eggs. We had mowed weeds, loaded junk, burnt brush and made a lot of noise before we discovered this very dedicated mother sitting on her nest. In honor of her persistence we have delayed completion of the project until the eggs hatched and babies are able to fly. The pictures show that she is making good progress and all of our employees hoping for a successful and happy family.

Male hummer is loud and chases all the other hummers away from the feeders. He also chases butterflies, locusts and wasps. We have a pond and waterfall feature in our backyard with a lot feeders so sometimes there are over a dozen hummers for him to bully. I spend a lot of time trying to catch a photo of these antics but so far they happen too fast. I am new to d800 and somewhat of a beginner at fast moving photography. nikon d800,70x200mm,2.8, shot at 1/8000,5.0f critics, suggestions, welcome

Looks like a domestic hybrid. We have mutants similar to that at Lake Merritt.

I doubt you can make an ID, because it's a mix. The curled tail feather says there's most likely some mallard, but the other markings probably aren't reliable.

Icould have saved a lot of time--- i should have known i would get a good answer---THANKS

The only thing can say for almost sure is that the duck in question is hybrid of two different duck breeds. Interbreeding between ducks is not uncommon, including between domestic and wild ducks. Unlike mules, which are sterile, and come from interbreeding a male donkey and a female horse (mare), I think interbred ducks can be fertile. There even are mixes of geese and ducks (gucks :) ,although I think the one in your picture is the result of a mallard and something else.

i could have saved several hours of research-- you guys have the answers--THANKS SO MUCH
