LOL!

My wife wised up years ago and just gives me that "look" and shakes her head slowly from side to side. You know what I'm talking about, that special "look" that says it all and her lips never move...

Having said that, when accosted I simply clear my throat and slowly gaze upward as if I'm contemplating. I'm not saying that it works, but I can't see that "look."

Whatever I purchase I tell the wife that it's around $250 - $300. Sometimes silence is golden, loose lips sinks ships and camera equipment too.

Second would be the photo equipment budget.

I have purchased four refurbished L lens from Canon and you would swear that they are brand new. No dings or scratches if that is what you have been squeamish about. Full one year coverage and some even had extra coverage too(drop or spilles, etc.) If not in that much of a hurry I would wait on Canon. You can see the prices of the refurbs. Had the Sigma 150 -500mm and just sent it to ADORAMA to a quote on selling it back, I purchased it from B&H in 2014. Just not that sharp for my needs. I shoot football, baseball, LaCross and soccer. I shoot with the 7D mark II. You can always try Greentoe.com you pick your item and tell them what you want to pay and they try to get you close to what your bid is.

Thanks for your response. I have been considering the Sigma 150-600 Sports lens because I do a lot of birding and this lens appears to have the features I need. I have been keeping an eye on Canon's web site for refurbished lenses, but I haven't seen anything come up in the range I am looking, and I am a little squeamish about the "refurbished" aspect. Several other contributors have mentioned refurbished so I might have to reconsider my stance. Appreciate your advice.

When using a tripod I leave IS off. If going for macro use a wireless/wired shutter release. Shooting sports.. leave it off because you are using a higher speed 1/800 - 1/1000.

Shooting with a 7D mark II with the Canon 70-200mm f/4.0 and the pics are great.

Spend a few bucks and take it to a photo shop and have the sensor cleaned, looks more than dust to me. Do you change your lens in dirty environments? If so that could do the trick to get contaminates on the sensor. If you never cleaned the sensor before take it to a shop, better safe than sorry.

If shooting action sports you are at a high speed, 1/800 to 1/1000 and the IS should be in the off position. Good luck shooting buddy, so times trail and error are the best teachers.

Anyone use this lens for shooting sports like football or soccer from the sidelines? If so how did the pics come out? Will be used in daylight 90% of the time. Might try is with my 7D II for hockey while shooting from the bench, should do OK. Thanks for all of your replies and info.

At $11,000, such a bargain. Maybe I'll get two.... I would use the 400mm f/5.6 for football games played in daylight conditions or at fields that have pretty good lighting. I use the 7D mark II and shoot at 1/1000th of a second with the ISO being maybe 100 - 250. The 7D mark II can handle a pretty high ISO if the field lighting stinks. Thanks for all the input, now I have more research to do.

Have a Sigma 150 - 500mm f/5 - 6.3, used it a few times only. Thinking of selling to ADORAMA for credit towards the Canon 400mm f5.6 USM. I shoot semi-pro football games from the sidelines and I am not happy with the Sigma lens. I have a Canon 70-200mm f/ 5.6 and what a difference when soothing the games. My question is has anyone out there shot football games with the Canon 400mm and how sharp were the pics. I am using the Canon 7D mark II body by the way. All answers would be appreciated and thanking all in advance.
