For all who have responded, so far, this is where it is with the Canon T3 Rebel battle w/Target as respects returning it in addition to a lenghty conversation w/Canon Tech...

Target issued receipt return expiration date 5/29/2013 on this camera purchase...I contacted Target corporate service and apparently they misinterpreted the camera needed repair as the warranty people called me to advise they are sending me mailing labels & instructions to return it. After I told them the function is a model function unrepairable verified by Canon tech, I was told to call Target Service Team which I did. I went thru 3 entry level people and the last person which is the 4th Target person to verify that the local Target store I purchased the camera from issued an incorrect receipt w/improper return expiration date.

She further advised corporate would decide w/4-5 biz days their decision as respects crediting a return to me. I informed her my intentions if they didn't...file w/FTC, Atty. General, Fraud Dept City Police including Elder Abuse, BBB, plus file lawsuit in Small Claims...

In my conversation to Canon tech, I mentioned the suggestion from this forum to set in Sports Mode & change ISO setting. He said the Sports Mode would help this but I'd still have to wait for auto focus & when it happened, press & hold the shutter button down for rapid shots. However, if I had to move the camera to follow the subject, it would blur. He also set fooling w/the ISO setting should not be done. He told me why but I couldn't remember nor care to as I will NOT keep this camera particularly since online reviews also stipulate the same focus problem and that the camera is best utilized on a tripod for still photos.

The Canon tech also told me that bridge cameras would be a better choice and that more expensive Canon DSLRs have better functions than the Rebel T3. I choose not to thru good $$$ after bad.

She always gives that look when she wants her 'meow, meow' (Temptations treats).

jjadeco....just be careful w/treats. There have been a lot of sudden deaths from kidney value in young cats. This prompted new research into causal issues since the cats kidneys were abnormally crashing. Research found they all had a common factor...treats were fed which had more than 30% protein levels. For instance, normal human untreated chicken, beef,, etc. have protein levels around 20%. I have a copy of that research paper...

Last year a buyer of a silver persian from me had a cat the vet dx'd (diagnosed) as a 3 yr old who was dna PKD negative w/kidney failure. I got all the reports and am quite capable to read cbp (complete blood panel) lab reports. I called this vet and he did all the tests he should have and felt it was caused by treats. I then went back to the owner and he said my boy loved the treats and I think it was the Temptation brand and he fed him
all the time w/them PLUS he had another cat on a special kidney
diet. The silver boy ate that also..The vet confirmed the silver boy from me should NOT have been eating that diet in addition to the treats...So be very careful w/the treats...suggest you feed human grade beef, turkey or chicken as a treat as most cats love this anyway...

Sorry, everyone, I know this is a photography forum w/some catlovers members.

I suppose you're attempting to respond to my photo issues w/the new DSLR Canon....I don't think you have any knowledge
of purebred cats in which most show/breeder cats in the Persian group ARE inbred and being a mix or purebred is not even relevant..The process is NOT the same as respects breeds....Siamese need to be photod differently than Persians to show their desirable traits...I've been in this for 35 years and know what "look" is necessary in photos for my breed...Persians &/or Exotic SHs.... so I really don't need advice in that respect.

I had very little blurring indoors...it was outdoors and the Canon tech did suggest what another Hedgehog person suggested...shoot in Sports Mode. The Canon tech still said the camera had difficult focusing properties & a bridge camera is easier.

I have taken very good photos of cats & NO blurring w/a very average Kodak because I know how to get from the subject, the look. It appears I have a capable get frustrating camera for what I'm using it for CONFIRMED by the Canon tech who helped me today. I just WISH I'd have done the professional reviews by camera reviewers BEFORE I bought this camera.

Target from whence I bought this Canon gave me a receipt stating
I had until late May to return it, which I tried today. I talked to 3 Target people one of whom was an executive who told me I had 45 days to return it which would have been 4/14/2013, another said 30 days, a 3rd, 15 days. The executive member as well as the service return Target people told me there should have been a 2nd date stating the return day for this purpose.

Not only am I frustrated w/this Canon product but now TARGET who I informed, fringes upon consumer fraud. I paid for this purchase w/a Citicard, filed w/them to get my $$$ back after 11 years with Citicard....

So if I'm STUCK w/this Canon, I'll just drive the Canon techs and Target nuts w/it!!!!!

I will NEVER EVER patronize TARGET...

Below is what I'm responding to....Smug is who I think it came from...

" Your caption kind of gives away a part of the problem. Regardless of whether the cat is purebred or a mix from many generations, or even inbreds, the process for shooting is the same. No cat is going to act like people (pose with unnatural, fake smiles & idiotic expressions.) A blurry shot is generally caused by camera movement & or too slow a shutter speed. If you can only get shots from indoors, try to get as much natural light in as possible, raise shutter speed & use a tripod or monopod. Keep finger pressed halfway on shutter until the cat has an expression you like, then squeeze the shutter, gently. This may take quite a while cause cats (like children) are not known for being real cooperative. "

I just spent an hour or more w/Canon tech...He felt the sports mode would be great but the flash won't work if I leave it in AF and
their sports mode has auto ISO settings...He said I still have to set AF for 1st photo but just leave the button down after that for several rapid fire photos. He said the 18-55 lense is best for what I'm doing and that I should be using the eye photo
viewer vs. the LCD. So I'm going to do some of these in case I'm
stuck w/it. He did admit the poke n shoots are easier.

Thanks again.

The cat does not have to always look at the camera. In purebreds,
we often take side photos to show "doming", ear set, body squareness in the persian group....Is the photo you took of your cat w/the Canon EOS T3 Rebel...were you using AF...how far away where you in taking the pic? Did you cat hold that pose for minutes.
I often time have only a second to capture the look I want. Shooting w/head up as you have in your photo will make ears look higher & longer...won't show roundness of eyes, and make everything about a cat's head show incorrectly. Even though I know how to photo a purebred cat, the CNet critique of this camera that
I should have read before I bought it, has a bad review for the focus aspect of this camera & recommends it's NOT good to photo children nor pets. Now I have a fight w/Target cause they claim the receipt 5/28/2013 return date is incorrect and I so far I'm stuck w/this camera. I'm accusing them of fraud and will file w/every agency I can & never shop there again...

My credit card company said they wouldn't have a problem to reverse the $$$...I hope so cause I will have to buy a more competent camera like a Nikon which has better macro, VR, etc. supposedly and they are $200 to $300 bridge type cameras reportedly as good or better than this DSLR...

I got 2 lenses w/this Canon...an 18/35 and a larger one...they are all out in my car & in the box...I know it has a sport setting and probably can set the ISO neither of which I've ever had to use w/my old cheap 10 yr old Kodak....Thank you for your suggestion,,,as I will try it but I had the same problem shooting inanimate objects...It seems that this camera needs to always be fiddled w/and I want a camera that doesn't!!!!!Lora

No It's NOT me yet it is...I don't care to fool around everytime for shots...if you ever had any experience shooting Persian cats to get big open round eyes, etc. you'd understand. They get bored and if you can't capture their moments, forget it. The Nikon reviews for bridge cameras sound much better w/quicker & auto settings and better macro mode for close up...I need simplicity not complexity..I know I can teach myself to use the Canon but it's got way too many bells n whistles I really don't need for what I want...The main reason I thought I needed a DSLR was fast shutter speed. I've shot for many years w/slow shutter speed, compensating shooting earlier to anticipate the look I wanted & it has worked just fine. I feel I can find what I want particularly since my cellphone which is much newer than my Kodak can take shots a lot easier then the Canon....The Nikon L820 reviews are very promising.

Thank you...yes, I have tried the AF pressing 1/2 way down to focus but the problem is by the time it's focused itself, I've lost the shot. Eyes have to be full open & round. Persians & Exotic SHs get bored so I need a camera ready to go when I get the look not wait for it everytime to focus. I always got good pics shooting early to compensate for slow shutter w/old Kodak but too often I got flash eyes. I'm returning the Canon, have researched the Nikon L820
which looks more my speed...I actually turned off the AF and just
shot away using close up selection but it blurs cause it's macro
mode can't handle 3 ft...The Nikon research of higher end point/shoot cameras claim they can handle this...I'll see. I like the simplicity of Kodaks I've used in past but not the flash eye issues and rarely got blurrs w/them...

Thank you, I'm reviewing as you advise...so far Nikon S9500 & S6500. both new but really don't need Wi-Fi but they both have good built in auto Macro for close up which is what I need...I'm not partial since using Kodak which always gave
true colors...Lora

Always watching a professional cat photographer using a SLR &
then a DSLR I bought a Canon EOS Rebel T3. By the time the AF is there, I've missed the shot . I photo about 3 ft to perhaps 4 ft
away from a cat and I usually have a prompt in left hand for desired (hopefully) shot. I've used an inexpensive Kodak poke n shoot for decades but most often get flash eyes which I can use PhotoPlus editing software. The Canon did take great eye shots but mostly blurred pics. I don't want to have a complicated camera I have to adjust everytime ...just one which will do what I need outdoors, indoors w/flash if needed...don't photo at night...I want to not spend anymore than $450...TIA if any of you can help....I've included one of the shots which was blurred more and I've sharpened it the best I could...Lora
