I think you are confusing religion with science in history. First of all, you need to be more specific about what you mean by "end of the world theories". End times prophecies in history had nothing to do with science, but everything to do with religions and cults. The current science on c*****e c****e and the awareness of how human industrial emissions are effecting the global climate and acidification of the oceans, etc., have no historical precedent. This is the first time in history that the global scientific community has warned about this level of danger of the global implications of the current and growing effects modern industrial society is having on the biosphere, because it is unprecedented in human history. Can you please produce an example of a time in history when science has sounded a similar level of alarm about the global situation? And I wonder if you understand that the level of scientific understanding of the climate and geological/biological systems did not exist in most of human history, only a half century or so.
