I like the idea of the back flash! All are good, but I prefer the second one for several reasons. The birds eye seems to be looking right at the viewer and my eye goes right to it....there is room in front of where the birds beak is pointing, the wing raised towards the beak leads the eye right back down to the little curled up feet...to the tail and back up (eye also follows the green color in the back ground around and up) then you are back at the eye again and ready for another trip around this really neat photo!

Has anyone had experience with camera's purchased from QVC? The payment option is appealing to someone on a teensy budget.

Thanks for looking and comment - The second one isn't as sharp, I think I moved holding the flash light

It's still a neat effect! I don't have a black light, but will put that on my "to do" list. This was an inspiration for me...thanks for posting!...also, I don't think moving the light would cause the blur...most likely camera movement instead. I attended a class once on light painting and you move the light all around while the timed photo is taken...slower shutter speed. Camera on tripod.

Looks like someone mixed the wrong color paint and just wanted to use it up on something! Lol!
On second thought, maybe it was for breast cancer awareness? Color is a little dark for that though?

Ah! Yes! The Presidents vacation. I believe he decided that he was needed so he cancelled it.

How easy it is to have amnesia when it comes to acknowledging the previous administration's vacation times.

Condemn the opposition and defend my position even though I am OPEN MINDED!!!!!!!!!! What a laugh.

Oh! Yes! QUIT BASHING BUSH!!!!!!

Go back to your lounge chair and turn on your favorite channel Fox or Rush or Bill or the other blind sided jerks.

All that the worried John has to do is bring it up for a vote to end this crisis.....and it would....but he is afraid of the T Party....of losing his seat....his job. His job vs. the country.

I still have a problem with the Reps. position.... is it tongue-in-cheek or do you really believe that they are doing this FOR the country when their accumulation of activities points to bringing hurt to the Pres. and the country be damned.

What I want to know is...why the congress can vote in (for themselves) a stipend to cover the costs of their own insurance, yet they can't live by the rules the rest of the working class has to live by? Paying for Obamacare is on the backs of the working poor and it is breaking their backs. If the sieve which is collecting all this money would actually be channeled into places to actually pay for healthcare instead of pouring into the pockets of corrupt politicians and their cronies...with all their pet projects...there would be enough to balance the budget and help those who truly need it. No law should ever be passed without being read by those who pass it. We vote in, and trust, idiotic morons to run this country.

Thanks Sunnykaren, colo43, and Linda! It was interesting to watch the interplay between the three moose. There was definitely no threatening or defensive postures taken my the cow. In fact, they would snuggle up to one another every once in a while. The cow was almost always at the side of her calf, but the bull was just kind of standing guard, so to speak. It was quite the functional moose family. There were times when I could see the bull and cow actively seeking responses from one another as they monitored their calf. I only wished I could have been closer, but I don't think that would have been a very wise move!

I agree entirely with your response - the wings would have been much more impressive taken at a different angle with a faster shutter speed - but catching a wasp in frame and then getting it in focus is enough of a challenge for me right now. Maybe when I retire next year I will be able to spend more time training my wasps to fly into just the right pose in the correct light :D :D

Seriously this is a difficult photographic challenge. You are constantly fighting dof, available light and shutter speed apart from getting the insect in focus. Probably the major trick is to try and understand and anticipate the insect behavior so you can be prepared to capture it in flight. Right now I am at the stage where I am pleased to be able to catch an insect in flight - next year in
retirement I am hoping to spend time to improve on these shots

I know exactly what you mean! I've photographed a lot of insects...mostly bees with my Olympus point and shoot. I do it handheld as the little buggers have a will of their own and zip and zoom out of range despite instructions to the contrary.....but that just makes it all the more rewarding when you do catch a decent pose. My Olympus has a macro setting...I set it on the setting for "athletes" and "flowers"....thinking they are small athletes!....but it is only jpeg....It works best in bright sunlight, but it does have a flash for that also. I haven't tried it yet with my dslr. Haven't figured out the right combination of lens...settings. Too many other things going on right now and just haven't had time to play with it. I enjoyed taking a peek at your photos.
