Is that a vase? Why not plagiarise Van Gogh?

As a matter of composition, I thing you got it right, when you put it at the center. The colors are perfect, but maybe you have too much different flowers in the same vase (think about a theme). Maybe if you shoot it from the side, with a vertical composition ("portrait") instead of a horizontal ("landscape")...

I had to laugh at the VanGough reference. My uncle 95 was an
accomplished photo-semi pro- He sold the Exakta and reverted to a pocket-snap camera.
The long and short; he retired and found he had a talent with watercolors. As a "copiest" and had to attach big disclaimer statements on his copies of "water lilies" etc. to avoid being accused of being a counterfitter of VanGough paintings.

To all respondents. Thank you so much. I value your constructive insight. The next time we receive flowers
on our 49th I will give it another try. I guess I will
practice on paper flowers from AC Moore or something like
that. Again Thanks.

What can I do to improve pictures of this type?
I know that I should control the background, which I tried to do.
I am concerned about the angle and DOF. To my way of looking at it the subject should be sharp. (That's just me)

Does anyone know of a slide scanner that uses a carousel? I think I saw one that holds a 100 slide carousel but can't remember where or what brand it is.

I have "Power Slide 3600" which I purchased from B&H a couple
years ago. Uses either a linear slide tray or "caraselle" (sp) type
of slide holder. If you want I can cc you the manual via
personal email.

Just beautiful, Jim! With you two walking on the path is brings it to life!

my wife wants a print. I still have reservations about the composition.
To clarify, it's my son and his daughter. I was just hobbling along behind.

Thanx for the input. Jim

Taken Nov. 2012 in Union County, NC.
While walking with the granddaughter and daddy. She stooped
down and pointed at this creature. Does anyone have an idea?

Taken with my travel NEX-5n

My family (husband and two daughters 4 & 10) and I are leaving for our first ever trip to Maine on the 23rd. We will be staying in Greenville Junction. Having never been there i dont know what to expect. I will be up early to catch the beautiful sunrises and in the evening I will capture the sunsets. Does anyone know of any "must photograph" areas near there? We will be doing a Moose tour, Seaplane tour and visiting Elephant Mountain(site of B52 crash.) I would love to check out some water falls and covered bridges if anyone knows of any in that area. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

It's a lovely place My family and I have driven up from Boston at least 25 times. Greenville is great. Don't forget to drive up a few of the side roads some of the residences are unbelievable.
Now, If you were to be there the weekend after Labor day you will be treated to the International Sea Plane Fly-In with some of the friendliest people around as well as a huge crafts show.

Have fun.

I'd send some pictures of Moose and Bears but you have to find them (live ones) for yourself.

The NTSC standard has been obsolete in the USA since all channels went to the digital ATSC format some years ago. Last time I found anything useful at RATTIO SHRECK was when they sold NTSC antennas.
Also, NTSC cameras will only transmit 575 scan lines and that's half the resolution of the 720P low resolution digital.

There is still a lot of inexpensive stuff out there in NTSC and getting a converter to digital gives lots of inexpensive possibilities.

I spent the last 8 years doing video surveylance on a budget and
often the A/D conversion was the only way to meet budget.

I have one, works very well. Comes with an additional buckle
for adding the "broken" neck strap.
