another Zenfolio user here. I've been with them since JAn 2007. their customer service is excellent. a few years ago I was on vacation in florida. I was copying files from several folders to a new folder to make it easier for a client to access and find photos they wanted, I accidentally deleted a folder. I had the files on a hard drive at home but was on vacation for another 2 weeks. I contacted zenfolio explained what happened and within 2 hours they had restored the entire folder for me

you simply move the object to get shots from different angles

I did look at the tent option. Thanks. I wonder if not being able to shoot from the top is a consideration. The tent appears to be excellent for side shots and 45 degree angle shots. Certainly the price is better than the box at $1000.

I'd go with something like this for lighting set up black background is good for jewelry

http://www.amazon.com/LimoStudio-Photography-Lighting-Chromakey-Backgrounds/dp/B005FMKJ1I/ref=pd_sim_sbs_p_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0ZG93HPBE87PKK8GB22G

Good morning,

I am looking for some guidance regarding the selection of a camera for close up pics of jewelry to be posted on a web site. Thus the camera must have download capability. Under $300 seems appropriate if possible since the camera will be used mostly for that task. Any input will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

the optech straps being made of neoprene do a great job of distributing weight
, do the military suspenders..

Thanks Mickey88

That is how I thought i could connect the cameras to the military suspenders as they have loops in those exact spaces in the front and a center one in the back. Then I started thinking of using the holsters on the belt.

I use and recommend the optech dual harness you can use it with 2 cameras, 1 camera to either side, or camera across your chest.. I shoot a lot of all day events. I carry 2 Sony A77s one with my 28-70 2.8 lens the other with my 80-200 2.8 lens. I can go all day and have no pain or discomfort... http://optechusa.com/dual-harness.html

On the posts here I have seen a lot of people that are ex-military and hopefully one of you can answer a couple of things for me. As I am getting older it is getting more difficult to go out on a hike with a camera with a long lens on a sling strap. I have read about all kinds of straps, holsters, etc and it seems everyone thinks they have the best idea. I was thinking that no one anywhere knows more about going out for a hike loaded with equipment than a soldier.

I have a Think Tank holster but I use it with an over the shoulder strap or for storage. I have tried it on a belt but it kept falling down as it seems it is smaller underneath my belly and the belt has a tendency to go there. So I was thinking a belt and suspenders and I saw military surplus pistol belts that are wide and you can get suspenders. Advertisements mention Alice and Molle I don’t’ know what the difference is so perhaps someone could help with that.

Anyway, when I was looking at the suspenders They have a loop in the center of the back and loops in the front. I have some of the things you screw into your tripod socket for a strap and I was thinking why not put a cord through one and clips on both ends and clip them onto the suspenders. If done that way I would think since it is in the center of the back the weight would be even on both shoulders. Then I read any weight on your shoulders is bad for your back and you should have it on your waist. So does the weight go on your shoulders with the suspenders or on the belt with the suspenders only function being to keep the belt from falling down? I have seen them called load bearing suspenders so it makes me think it goes on your shoulders not your waist.

I'm thinking I could use it with the Think Tank holster on the belt or on a cord that attaches to the loops on the suspenders. I was also thinking I could easily attach another cord to the other side and bring two bodies. Naturally since it is military I know you can get a canteen for it. I was also looking at some of my lens pouches and it appears they could be placed on the belt as well.

I’m thinking that you can get a belt, suspenders and canteen for $20 and the quality I’m sure is as good as anything on the market. Lowepro wants about $100 for a belt and suspenders or you can get a vest and a belt for $150.

I'm thinking this would be a completely flexible system; you could attach anything as I have seen little pouches that attach as well. If you don’t want green they have them in black for swat teams but they cost a couple of dollars more (I have not seen a black canteen). I’m thinking it would be as good as any modular system out there if not better at about 10-20 percent of the cost. Any and all thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Corel does just about everything Adobe will and uses all the popular plug-ins. I have had Corel since x3. I currently have x6 and did not plan on getting x7 since I don't feel it is much of an upgrade over x6.
I totally agree with you on Adobe. Good luck and enjoy the Corel.

I have been using Fotki for over 10 years. A few years ago they lost pictures for 10's of thousands of people and it took over a year to get most back. Ordered about 39 pictures about 3 weeks ago and it took over two weeks to get them. Went to Costco and had the in 10 min. for less. Today tried to upload 69 photo's and nothing but problems.
So now I was looking for another place to store photos that I can share with friends and family. Just started using Photobucket but was looking for suggestions. Free is good.
Thanks,
Ron

I've been using Zenfolio since JAn 2007. When I was first looking I checked out smugmug and zenfolio, i chose zenfolio because their lab was MPIX which I had used for years. the only problem I've ever had was user error. I was in Orlando on vacation and was trying to move some event photos from one folder to another to make it easier for a client to download them. I accidentally deleted the wrong folder and lost the photos. I had the originals at home so they weren't gone forever. however I was going to be in Orlando for 2 more weeks. I emailed the support center explaining the problem. within 2 hours they had found and restored the photos for me..

What size and color should I start with.

I have 3 backdrops, all 10x20 chromakey blue,
chromakey green, and a light powder blue. the powder blue allows me to make it whatever color I want, I simply isolate the background with PSP6 and change it, I recently did a shoot and didn't like the blue, tried various colors and decided a bright turquoise, made the subjects stand out best. I use the chromakey, with models that want fun shots, I have thousands of digital files that I can merge into the background and make pics look like location shots.

the same thing could be done with the powder blue, but I have a chromakey program that allows me to batch process a whole folder from a shoot rather easily
