I haven't used LR in months and just dropped in a photo to process. Photo shows up but into "Quick Development." I don't want any such "Quick" Developement. How do I get back to what was routine Development without having to buy a book with 300 pages of stuff I don't need.

Thanks

Nate

My question is simple…..in LightRoom, is it possible to duplicate an image rather than a virtual copy.

I will sometimes make several virtual copies of an image for later post processing and, say, months later go back to work one of those virtual copies to find that it cannot be done because the original cannot be located." I have a number of external drives and when that happens it’s sometimes impossible, or nearly so, to relocate the original.

Any help will be welcomed………..including now to avoid the problem if an actual duplicate cannot be made as a copy of the original.

Not jpeg. Raw.. final image is 113 MB. Camera is an 800E.

I think there is a limit to which a greyscale file can be reworked, and if that is so...then given the amount of time
I put into an image, I surely have a work style that goes over that line, and I am not surprised. So, I suppose that
I had better change my ways..

Thanks.....but I need to say something of more general importance. I did a lot of B&W in the past, some of which was published and I even won competitions involving international entries. But one thing that bugged me then and occurred again today that is, again significant enough to turn me away. I would work and rework an image and heavily reworked areas eventually turned to mush....as if the the reworked surfaces disintegrated and the limit of reworking had been reach and what was left was a rather deteriorated surface that what I had in mind could only be salvaged by starting over again with a copy. That occurred today again and I find it and it is disheartening and I have to wonder if this might not be a familiar experience to others

The prior discussion about the matter led to endless discussion om differences between a duplicate, copy, and virtual copy and admonition that LR is a toy and not to be used for serious work, PS is superior. Any comment will be appreciated.

I haven't used LR for a while. And have just finished working on an image that I would like to Export to a folder on the Desktop.
If memory serves, in past I went to the upper left and found Export....but not now. Has something changed in the recent past with respect to locating and using Export to move a finished image? Thanks.

That is precisely the problem........in my case, the original cannot be located because, most probably, it is in an external drive somewhere in the past. I always presumed a Virtual Copy was a functional equivalent under all circumstances. THANK YOU!

I am surprised that others have not run into the problem. I think it best that I hold off further discussions until the matter of concern occurs again and then reinter ithe concern...rather than to go through the routine off pp steps. Thanks....nc

I am using 2015.3CC
I seem unable to bring it up. But it has occurred several times in the past, and because I plan to do some serious pp next wk I thought it important to bring it up now for a screen shot. The message is explicit....it says this is not the Original and cannot be used for post-processing in the Develop module.....which is true---it cannot be done. It is devilishly difficult to find a way around it and ultimately I usually resort to dropping it it into PS and work with it there.

Then, in LR...why is it I get a message saying the image I have on the screen is not the "original," and therefore cannot be processed? How does that serious problem originate, and how may it be avoided?

I use use LightRoom and routinely make several Virtual Copies of an image to explore more than one post-processing approach for the same image. I fear that has led to a disastrous consequence, namely, a warning that the image I am about to process is not the original and therefore cannot be used in LR. The question I have is--can I avoid the problem by using Duplicate rather than Create a Virtual Copy in order to have a number of workable copies of the original image---or is switching to Photoshop the better way to deal with the matter?

Agreed. Did you also turn off WiFi and hardwire?
