Beautiful set. That's a part of Africa I'd really like to see. I hope you'll post more images from your trip.

Thanks for your kind comment, I am keen to but wasn't sure where to do this - picture gallery perhaps??
I am also on the board of a charity hospital in Dili, East Timor, so flying up there again tomorrow morning so have run out of time to sort through all my photos. Hope to get on to it in the next few weeks.

great set mate i,ve never seen an eagle and prob never will, nice one ,,jimmy

thanks all for your comments. Back in Oz now and thousands of photos to filter through! Must have seen between 50 and 100 eagles! Dozens of vultures in dead trees around a lion kill - a real lion king movie scene :) But I still think my best capture might be my new avatar of the Malachite Kingfisher - tiny bird only the size of a finch!!

Related to the wolf, there are now only approximately 200 wild African painted dogs in the Kruger National Park area. We were so lucky today to sight a pack of 9 of these too infrequently seen predators. There were 3 young and 6 adults, an absolute delight to see!!!
The 3 young had been left, probably whilst the adults hunted, and we caught up to them as the young were about to join up again with the adults.

According to the link it's a Malachite Kingfisher. Go to the top of page 3. Great shot and outstanding color.

Thanks bparr1, thanks for pointing me to this link, I can certainly attest to the accuracy of this whole document, the Okavango Delta is truly a bird viewing paradise AND yes the pic of the Malachite in this article and mine are pretty much one and the same. cheers,

Definitely Malachite. It lacks the scarlet feathers found right behind the eyes of the Pigmy. Gorgeous shots!!

Hi Tiny Tim, I thought it was the Malachite so thanks for confirming.

Great photos, thanks for the post. It might be interesting to crop just above the head and just below the tail feathers. It might give you a third outstanding photo.

Thanks Mercer, I have another couple of this bird so might try to crop as you suggest and post.
