I have the d5000 too. Love it! Definitely read your manual. This camera has many capabilities. Keep shooting...you'll learn while you're having fun.

I think all 3 are just wonderful! My fav is the first one, though. HDR is something I haven't played with yet, but I plan to! Great job.

I also have a D5000, and was shooting during a wedding ceremony recently. I had already turned the "beep" off, but was also unhappy with the clicking sound. Hated to do it, but I still clicked away. Didn't take as many shots as I normally would have, though. Still, my camera allows me to take very nice pics, so I won't complain too much!

Wow! Thank you everyone for your words of wisdom and all of the links. You've given me a lot to think about and experiment with. And I will experiment someplace OTHER than my next wedding! Will let you all know how I do.
