Ah, now that is what I was envisioning for this scene. I like the final result but don't have CS6 to work with. But I bet I can still get closer using LR6. Oddly enough, I was trying to tone down the gradiance in the sky--seeing your version makes me more comfortable with enhancing it in this and future images. Thanks so much for putting the effort into demonstrating the adjustments for B&W, Kentee!!

You're welcome Dmeyer. Good job and best for the future.

There must be brightness-contrast sliders in LIghtroom similar to that in CS6.

The bodies of Custer's men were badly desecrated but Custer's was left pretty much untouched. The Indians referred to him as "Son of the Morning Star" in reference to the massacre he inflicted on Black Kettle's people (mainly sleeping women and children) at Washita Creek, OK. They hated him but his body was almost untouchable. The treatment of the bodies was carried out by Indian women and you can imagine what this led to.

If Custer had an "arrow" shirt, he didn't have it very long.

No, although it looks pretty cluttered. This is actually one corner of the Fort Riley Museum Gift Shop in Fort Riley, Kansas.

I was stationed at Ft. Riley back in the distant past. So, on a motor trip one year, we toured the Fort and, of course, stopped at the Museum. This corner is actually "stuff" the volunteers gather and sell to support the effort. Much of it appears to come from transferred Army families who shed weight before departing for other posts.

Fort Riley is the historic frontier Cavalry post where the 7th Cavalry and Lt. Col. George Custer were posted in 1866.

Actually, I was thinking of something like the attached. The idea is to lighten the area above the horizon and bring out the clouds and tree textures. If you look at the horizon, the portion just above is lighter than the dark blues higher in the sky. This is caused by dust, air density humidity and whatever else has settled there.

Without higher contrast, in print reproduction or just hanging on the wall, the picture appears muddy and unexciting without more contrast. I used the brightness-contrast sliders in Photoshop CS6. Very simple.

Sorry this took so long; I was on an extended trip and just returned.

Love black & whites. Great scenes. If they were mine, I would experiment with brightness and contrast in Photoshop. This would give increased depth and interest, IMHO.

#8 is Bougainvillea, a tropical plant popular in the warmer climates and in Hawaii. Covered with vicious thorns when mature.

Have a PC with Windows 8 - anyone else suffering from this same problem ?

I used to have this problem when working with PS5 and using multiple layers. Had Vista, 32-bit with 4 gigs of RAM.

Bought new computer, 64-bit, Windows 7 and 16 gigs of RAM. Haven't crashed yet with many layers open. Problem solved!

I buy Epson tanks for my Epson 3800 from Amazon or B&H, always new and far from the expiration date. Don't replace them often since they are large capacity and I can't stand the pain and grief that comes with using odds and ends (not to mention the ruined paper and my time wasted trying to get great results from second-rate supplies).

Also, if you have PRIME from Amazon, you are only two days away from your new tanks! Replace only the color you need when that one gets low.

Obviously, do what works for you.

Try setting PS to "do not color manage this file" under Edit-Assign Profile and in the printer to Printer manages color. Works for me.

or less, but, in this case, more! I like it and think the photographer saw something in it that didn't show in the original.

It becomes something different with the first step in whatever post-processing the photographer chooses.

Fire one for effect! This is the rose I would like to raise but someone else did that and I stole a shot when taking my morning walk.

Some may disagree with the Photoshopping but it does stand out when hanging on the wall.
