Yeppers. Been reformatting as I switch from one camera to the other.

Nikonian72 - thanks for the link. I figured there had to be one here someplace, but am still figuring out where stuff is located!

Man, Bruce with a Canon, don't I know media is cheaper than film! Even though I loved the days of playing around with the differences between, say, Fuji vs. Kodak, I love even more not having to set aside another couple hundred every time I go on vacation to cover the costs of processing when I'd get home!

I've never given much thought to memory cards, other than to use name brand ones. I've got a new Nikon D3200, and use an older Canon PowerShot A610 as my daily Point-n-Shoot. In the past, I've been able to use the same memory cards between whatever DSLR I had at the time and the Canon, but since getting the Nikon, I've been getting a "Memory Card Error" on some cards.

So I did some research on cards, and have come back pretty much confused. What are the differences between the different types of cards? Is it worth it to pay the extra money for Extreme cards? Is one brand name more consistent than the others, in your experience?

Thanks!

Gee.

My Dad told us the same walking through the snow story, except it was to school. When he died, my sisters and I returned to the small town in northern Minnesota where he grew up. Our uncle gave us a tour of the town, and we were most surprised to see that the schools were all on one side of a little town square, and the house where Dad grew up was on the other side of the square. He evidently got 5 miles confused with 5 seconds.

We swear to this day we heard him laughing from the next world......

Being a newbie here, I certainly don't want to start out by disrespecting anyone. And I understand your frustration, Nikon_DonB! The very first SLR I ever owned was one of the first with electronics. They were prone to mirror lockup. Which mine did after about a week. Back to the factory for a month. During which I made an enemy of our UPS guy bugging him daily about if he had a package for me.

I do know that the sensor problem is something over and beyond the usual, and Nikon really needs to get their act together and do something about it. What I wanted to point out, though, is that all the camera manufacturer's can have problems similar to this. After several decades of shooting with Canons without problems, I've recently run into several horrible situations with Canon cameras and Customer Service. Bad enough to make me switch back to Nikon. So switching brands won't necessarily help.

I agree with the folks that suggested sending as letter to the President of Nikon. I've done this a couple of times on various things, and have found that it works wonders!

Good luck!

Back in the film days, I shot with Nikon exclusively. When digital came out, I switched to Canon. Long story short, I've just come back to Nikon and bought a new D3200. (The cherry red version, I'll have you know!) Love, love, love it! I've got small hands, and the fit and weight are perfect. I think Nikon has a deal right now where if you buy the body and kit lens (18-55 you're talking about), you can also buy oher lenses at a substantial discount. I got an additional 55-300 f/4.5-5.6 zoom (the good zoom, not the plastic one) for $249.00. They are selling for $399.00 on Amazon right now. IMHO, the D3200 is not only a good entry level camera, but one that you would be happy with for a very long time.........

I bought my first reconditioned unit in years this Black Friday at Canon.com. An upscale point-n-shoot for my sister's Christmas present. Got it, and I'd get an error message when I tried to turn it on. After 3 conversations with the Canon tech folks, they agreed that the camera was defective and to send it back. I am STILL waiting for either a replacement or credit.
