Lovely reminders of some great days flounder fishing!
My late uncle lost some of his friends to the incoming tide at Arnside.
Thank you for some great pics of a wonderful place.
I used to work in Milnthorpe, just down the road!
I see you are looking better!
I love that view from Gummers Howe!
Also the dying bracken in the foreground gives it a real lift.
Thank you.
I understand it is the 3rd most watched TV programme in the world.
Yes he is arrogant, but so are many others in the media.
It was a stupid and wrong move to cancel the show. Why deprive people of their paid for favourite show.
The BBC is funded not by advertising, but by a licence fee which we all have to pay. This move showed their arrogance. The BBC has taken a step which a commercial station could not afford to do.
He was a twit to do what he did, but they were both grown ups, and should have shaken hands and gone for a drink!
I am sure the show can continue, but only if they get the right man in, will it succeed.
Car manufacturers know they need Top Gear, and have over the years been willing to provide some of the best and most expensive cars in the world. They wouldn't have done this if they hadn't trusted these guys. Trust can take a long time to achieve, so I wait with some trepidation!
Moody moody moody. Lovely thank you!
That is great advice! Do as much research as you can before you arrive, otherwise you could be wasting some of your precious days.
Have a great time!
Ah Theakstons!
One of their beers is "Old Peculiar" which is a heavy dark beer. Lovely! It is known locally as "Loony broth"!!
Welcome to our incredible country!
I live about 45 minutes from Heartbeat country. It is indeed a beautiful area. It is quite near the lovely coastal towns of Whitby and Scarborough. Do look them up.
Also, if you have the time, York is only an hour or so away. It has the largest railway museum in the world. Brilliant! I was there a month ago. Entrance is free but the car park is expensive. The Castle Museum with its old street with carriages, horses and shops is excellent.
Be aware that York is VERY expensive.
Another hour to the west is Leeds with the National Royal Armouries collection.
Fabulous day out with presentations going on all day.
As to weather, it can be mixed. Warm or chilly, so bring some warm clothes with you.
Have a look at these on the internet.
Have a wonderful holiday, but keep within the speed limits!!
I remember in the 1950s, lots of whole families would go from London's East End for 2 weeks and move into tiny chalets on the Hop farms in Kent.
The whole family got paid for picking the hops by hand. Their hands turned a deep brown!
Yes, this was first delivered by Gerrard Hoffnung at the Oxford Union in 1958 (I think).
It is timeless, thanks for the memory!
I have looked and looked at this pic. Perhaps the only change I would make would be to crop about half of the bench leg off. The eye isn't then taken to the heaviness of the bench and leg, but travels down the path more easily.
Would that improve it?
It would just create another wonderful pic. It would be good to keep both!
I would choose the first one, but for the telegraph wire. I know, it was there!
The last is for me, wonderful. The beauty of the flowers and the gentle curve of the fields, leading to the stark, rocky peaks does it for me. Add to that the corresponding sandy (?) bowl on the left and the remnants of snow just adds more.
Did you notice the heart shape?
I just want to walk through the flowers and climb that ridge!
Thank you for a terrific set. Wow!
The wonderfully soft clouds contrast with the sharp peaks.
You find yourself looking further and further through the pic.
Lovely one, thank you!
I'm not sure if I would prefer to be the angler or photographer!
Really original composition. Thank you for a pic which I really had to look at!
