At the last update both versions of Lightroom got an enhanced "Auto" button in the Develop/Edit sections. Before, most agreed it didn't work very well. Now it seems much better.

The description from Adobe is worth reading. "Start your edits with Auto, which uses Adobe Sensei to intelligently apply adjustments based on a photo’s light and color characteristics. Adobe's Auto feature now uses advanced machine learning to automatically apply the best edits for these slider controls in your photos: Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks, Saturation, and Vibrance. In addition, the Auto feature now also includes the ability to optimize the adjustments of the photo even after cropping has been applied.

The underlying neural nets have been trained with thousands of professionally shot and manually edited photos to evaluate and correct an image, just like a skilled human photographer."

Excellent idea thanks for sharing

I've started trying it to set a starting point in Classic CC. It works better than I want to admit!

I started to wonder what would happen if I applied it to every RAW in import! It can be done. I made a preset with only the Auto box and Sharpening boxes selected. I went out and shot a dozen images and imported them with the preset applied. It worked!

If you are a Lightroom Classic CC user, try it and post how it works for you.

Why? Or, just export the Mac catalog to a USB stick and import it into LR on your Desktop. Copy the catalog to your desktop HD before importing into LR, prevents confusion.

My intention was to do exactly what you described above. I merely wanted to ensure the integrity of the catalog would be not be compromised if copying / moving the catalog between two different operating systems.

Question about moving my Lightroom catalog
I use a HP Windows 10 desktop machine for post processing my images. Am using LR Classic.
Now am going across Europe on a month’s holiday and my daughter has offered to lend me her spare MacBook laptop to carry along to download and post process the many photos I will shoot whilst on holidays.

My question: can I copy my catalog from the windows machine to the Mac and process images and then on my return copy the catalog back from the Mac to the windows machine? My LR catalog references to over 70,000 images and I want to be safe, hence the above question to the forum.

Has anyone tried this and had success?

In your case, since you have the keepers in a collection, just go to the collection with the keepers and select all, hit the letter P on the keyboard to Pick them, go to the Library folder where they all live, go up the the menu (up top) edit>select by flag>unflagged>hit Delete key

I like this suggestion and it works perfectly in my case.

Thank you all for your valuable feedback, I have not been flagging my selection.
I believe this is the way to go, going forward.

I did discover once photos are in a targeted collection, a grey dot appears on the photos in the directory tree under the Library module. This is helpful for me to identify, which photos in directory belong to a collection. This enables me to delete the others. Flag X and backspace to delete.

Hello,
I often shoot an event with say 1000 photos.
Then create a collection of say only 700 of the 1000 photos that I require for sharing.
Hence, I no longer require the balance 300 photos.
Is there a quick way to filter or sort the remaining 300 for a quick deletion completely from my computer hard drive using Lightroom?

Important to note all my import work is always done inside Lightroom

Will be travelling overseas to South Asia on a holiday.
Need to purchase a carry on bag (airline acceptable cabin luggage) that can carry my 17" laptop, camera Nikon D750, 70/200 lens. Me thinks most appropriate would be a backpack or thereabouts.
I like the Think Tank range of bags but unsure what would suit the above, especially since my laptop is 17"
Appreciate any suggestions on bags
Thanks in advance

Hi Bill,
I have the same Sony camera n would like to shoot like you in auto HDR.
However, the option DRO/HDR auto appears greyed out under the shooting menu, and I tried but cannot get it to light up in order for me to switch on the HDR option. Could you guide me.
Much appreciated. Thanks
