France!!
Why France?

Some of our best moments were spent across the channel.

However, here are my three.

1. Antarctica
2. Bangladesh
3. Alaska

1. Grenada - Where my husband and I were married.
2. Malaysia - East coast. Almost as beautiful as Grenada.
3. Quebec - Just love the place but only in Summer.

I've been working on a list of "100 Places I'd Rather Be Than in the Office". It stems from people asking me what I'm going to do with all that time if, as I plan, I retire at the young age of 55. I always reply, "If you can't think of 100 places you'd rather than in the office I feel bad for you".

While working on the list, I realize that many of the locations I list are places I'd like to photograph. With all that said give me 3 places you'd like to photograph.

I'll start:
1) Yellowstone (was there in 1996 before digital and would love to go back again)
2) Ireland (The Motherland and I'd love to see and photograph it)
3) A Patriots home game from the sidelines

OK your turn...money is no object, where you going?

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome and great advice. I think I'll take my time and have a look at the different camera manufacturers, before deciding on a DSLR.

There was I thinking it was going to be an easy task...I wish.

Hi, using my Lumix FZ48 for the first time yesterday in London on a open top double decker (until it started chucking it down). Most shots were taken when stopped at lights etc. Any comments then fire away I can take it.

Thanks farmerjim,
Maybe I'm just unlucky with my HS20?
But I am really, really disappointed with this camera and would happily sell it. However, I have a conscience and wouldn't feel right passing it onto someone else for money.

Hi Shelly, welcome to the Hog. I'm sure you'll enjoy and learn loads here.
Don't be too quick to move up to DSLR, I had two Fuji bridge cameras an S7000 and an S200EXR still got them both and they're great cameras. I moved on to DSLR soon after getting the S200exr and bought a Pentax K10D, boy, was I disappointed, the Image Quality was not as good as either of the Fujis. Moved on to M4/3 system [EPL-2 and Lumix G1] now but the Fuji cameras still punch above their weight.

Hi Shelly,

If you are seriously thinking about buying a DSLR and good lenses. You may like to think about which manufacturer you may , or may not, have preference for. I have been a Canon user for many years and can vouch for their reliability. Secondly, when it comes to which lens(s) to buy. A good starting point is a short telephoto. Canon make dozens of lens of differing focal lengths. However, without question, if funds allow go for the 'L' series. the image quality is second to none, unfortunately, like most things in life you get what you pay for. The L lens cost considerably more than the standard lens, but the important bit is that piece of glass at the front. I have yet to find any other lens that can compare to the L series.
Another point to consider is what size prints are you most likely to want. A small APC size sensor is adequate for prints upto A3, a full frame sensor ( roughly equal to a 35mm negative) will enable you print photos to a much larger size.
I strongly suggest that you do not hurry into making a decision, do your research, go to different dealers and hold the cameras , see the effect that different lenses have, and of course who will do the best deals.
There isn't much point in considering a camera that has all the bells and whistles if you do not need them.
Just to reitterate, seriously consider the best quality lens you can afford. a good lens will give you years of trouble free use and also give you the best possible image quality. Good luck and I hope to see some of you photos here on UHH... Norman

Hi John,
Which DSLR did you own?
I'd really like to experiment with a DSLR.

Hello Shelly, that's a good camera, I suggest you fully exploit the Fuji, before deciding on your next one. I have just come away from DSLR due to the bulk, but they do produce good results. I now use a CSC (compact system camera) Olympus E-PL1, there are few other makes, but they are much smaller and less intrusive when doing street shots.

Thanks for the reply and welcome Peter.
I find the HS20 very frustrating - especially when trying to take moving subjects. The camera keeps "hunting"; often allowing the moment to pass.

Is it expensive?

I'm new to photography and I normally shoot sports, friends and family. I currently have a Fuji HS20 Bridge camera.

I'm interested in purchasing a DSLR camera and some good lens, which would help with capturing fast moving action and sports. Does anyone have any advice they could pass on to me?

Please be gentle with me. It's taken me lots of courage to make my first posting.
