Could it be in the image focusing field? Too close yet for the bites which I would assume be closer to the camera and therefore the front of the focal plane...My D100 has image sensors that you see in the viewfinder...maybe they are trying to focus in a different area of the view.

Hope your friend recovers soon from the bites...good luck.

I'm glad for the critique...that's how I got most of my photo education...make mistakes then learn how to correct, then avoid if possible. I did't take into consideration how fast the swan was swimming....by the time the shutter cllicked, perhaps he was starting to swim out of the focal plane...This is why I look forward to critiques. I either like or love the photos regardless of their faults...there's a lesson in every photo...that's what makes us photographers...Love and blessings, Rose

PS Would love to have you continue to critique...don't go away. May not always agree, but this is what this forum is for I believe...

I assume that you used a polarizing filter? Did you use a UV haze filter? Actually, I find this to be a really nice shot. Well composed and interesting.

First of all, I am overwhelmed with the complexity and reach of this site. I am a hobbyist, really buying my first camera when my daughter was 6 months old. I enjoy challenging photography, ususally el natural. I hope to become totally immersed in this site as I always want to learn more. I was fortunate to belong to a camera club in which I found many friends and mentors. I am looking forward to learning (don't know that I am qualified to teach though)...just enjoy making an automatic camera do what I want to present to the world...Mostly GOD created. Would like to branch out to people sometime in the near future...hope to see and talk to all of you...Good shooting!

My first swan, on a sunny day
