I rather have my doubts that digital P&S , or phone camera will ever take the place of DSLR photography.....first off, one off the settings I use quite frequently and love is, the continuous flash, the fabulous zoom, the indoor images ( quite poor at night indoors w camera phones ) I could go on with features you will not find in small digitalis or phones....

On the upside of digital, I have taken Beautiful photos w P&S and phone, but you cannot get the powerful zoom, however, the IPAD is WONDERFUL. I use it often..... You get the WHOLE picture ..... these are from my sweet IPAD ....

Hoping I get to learn all the features. One thing I did notice for sure and that is to use a tripod whenever you can....the camera is weighty which prohibits me from getting clear , crisp photos.... I like most shots, but there just not crisp enough for me.....any suggestions from folks that own this 7000 ?

Was at my camera store yesterday and tried an amazing Wide Angle ($500) which I'm going to save my $ for.... Firm believer in quality lens and not the kit ones..... Lens to me means more than the body ...

Shots are great !!! I am a somewhat new owner of the D7000 ( last July) and simply love the photos it has produced but sad to say, I am still trying to work all the trillion settings....
Many will tell me......" Just use Auto " ...my answer to that is " if I wanted to only use Auto, why would I spent big bucks ?

Honestly, I captured Beautiful shots from a simple, tiny , Fugi point n Shoot, and also get amazing pictures using my Canon s90....

Unless your into professional photography, I still say, it's not the equiptment, but rather what you catch through that little eye :-)

My feelings alone.....you are born with certain talents, creativity is one....
I think Artsie folks have the knack for taking wonderful photos
What you capture in your lens is in the eye of the beholder ....

I was a sought after Hair designer in a past life lol and that too is something you cannot be taught in Beauty School.....you may be able to do a basic cut or , color etc.... But to be a Creative Hair designer , and be able to look at someone and know just what compliments them does not come in a manual or even with practice....

I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder......whether with a DSLR or a $100 snap n shoot....

. Now getting into perfection of the quality , settings for certain situations , I am horrible, but have had no formal education in photography what so ever.....now that, my friend , IS something you CAN master...... Not Creativity.....the word alone explains it ...... CREATIVITY ...... One posses it or does not......

Using a tripod can actually be thought of as a discipline. It is just easier to hand-hold. Make yourself use it. Even with outdoor real estate photography.

I shoot some for a company that makes decorative concrete products. I always use my tripod. (pic attached)

I look at some of the photography done for real estate web sites and I always think "EEEK!" How much better that would have been if they had used a tripod.

A thought on the wide angle. I saved my coins and bought a Tokina 11-16mm wide angle for my Nikon D90. I love it! Got it on Ebay for around $500 and I am sure it has gone down some since I got mine, about 6 months ago.

Thank you so much.. Getting out the Tripod today... It will have a permanent spot in my car... 🏡

Thank you, a good agent gets your home sold, she/he should be able to set price for competition, outshine your neighbor in showing it's best, of course Location, Location still remains and have a great marketing plan im place... Agent tour, very helpful to sellers etc..
I agree good quality photos are a must but have to hughky disagree with making a trailer that was disccribed go from pretty bad ti beautiful on photos , using software etc. is deception in my opinion. Then all agents get your number...... Hummm Judy listings all look great until you get there...
Your are not in a photo contest but tryibg to portray this home in it's current condition and watching for things like cleaning clutter, clear countertops, toilet lids down etc, NOT making Corian into Granite with Photoshop.
I say keep it real.... Your the winner in the end.
Abd Virtual tours ? My clients are not that impressed, they hire me for what I have to offer and my aggressive Marketing Plan.. Virtual tours are just a bonus... They won't sell the house . Pictures and tours are great but once buyers are in the house.... It's in their hands ..

I totally agree with you on some levels, however, the last 4 homes I've sold, i was told by the buyers ? What attractec them was my photos, you may not of read where I stated that various agents have asked me to do their photos, and we have weekly meetings prior to out agent tours, and if i am one that had a new listing, the Manager pulls mine up due to the photography ...
There is just always room for improvement,

As far as Virtual, i pay 99 a year for endless properties and they do a great job.

Thanks for your input

I agree that there is plenty of information out there online for free which is great if you need a place to start. IF you are looking for something specific, then maybe take a class on that. Creative Live is a great place.

Eventually you can become a certified professional photographer if you are really looking for a piece of paper to show.

No, not thinking of becoming anything close to a professional , lol at my age, however , if I ever complete a course and feel comfortable, I will take photos for other agents but 98% of time........just a hobby that I Love !!!

Thank you so much :-)

If you're not worried about a qualification, the only real way to learn is to go out and do it.

You are so right !!!! I used a Canon 35 ml, years ago but this is vastly different ....

I am going to take a day when the leaves turn and spend the entire day up in the Mountains just testing out settings....

Thanks for the great advice :-)

For your lit interior at dusk, try HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography. This type of photography helps compensate for the fact that our eyes can discern a wider range of light than a digital camera can. You take three pictures at a fixed aperture (opening) at three different shutter speeds. Then you use a software package designed for HDR such as Photomatix to combine the pictures. Unless you are extremely steady, you will need a tripod for this procedure. Good luck.

Greatly appreciated :-)
